In 1892, Haltom City became the home of the first target shooting club in Texas. The club was organized by Capt. John J. Payne and his son-in-law, Sam Houston. The club had a small room in which it shot targets from a hill on the city's east side. The first months of 1893 were spent building a new shooting range in what is now the back lot of City Hall Park. On October 10, 1893, Capt. Payne decided to hold an annual meeting at which all members could attend free of charge. At that meeting, Capt Payne appointed himself president and treasurer and gave instructions for organizing future meetings and making rules for the club. By 1895, there were two other target shooting clubs in Haltom City - one led by Mayor Fenton and another by Captain George Neely - so it seems that Capt Payne's originalclub was not unique or particularly successful. However, because this early period of target shooting history is well documented through membership books and other sources such as photographs and artifacts, we can enjoy some insights into how this type of activity evolved over time in Haltom City over many years! In 1896, Capt Payne sold his interest in the club to Sam Houston who then continued to operate it until 1907 when he sold it again to Julius Coker who ran it until 1951 when it was purchased by Mr. Harry Laughlin who operated it until 1984 when it was donated to Haltom City Historical Society where it currently resides!

Haltom City is a small town in west Texas that is best known for its proximity to the Mexican border. The population was 1,903 at the 2010 census. It lies just east of the Rio Grande on the edge of what is now Comanche County. The name "Haltom" comes from an old Hidatsa word meaning "the place where game abounds." The area around Haltom City was first settled by people who migrated from central Mexico in the 18th century. In 1836, John C. Fremont and his party discovered gold near Haltom City, which led to increased traffic and development in the area. By 1860, there were over 1,000 people living in Haltom City. In 1870, a post office was established at Haltom City and it remained in operation until 1907. In 1901, silver began to be mined in western Comanche County and Haltom City became an important stop on the shipment of ore northward into Mexico. This development led to a increase in trade with Mexico and other parts of North America. By 1910, there were over 2,500 residents living in Haltom City. The growth of industry during World War II caused a decrease in population but increased economic activity when production shifted from munitions to vehicles and other products used by military personnel and civilians alike. In 1950, the last post office closed as mail service moved to larger towns throughout Texas instead of relying on smaller towns like Haltom City for delivery services. Since then, little has changed about how life works here; most people are still employed by their families or businesses within town limits while others commute out for work each day or take part in local cultural events such as rodeos or festivals (eclipsing any interest seen outside town). Despite this stability though some challenges have arisen recently with several natural disasters hitting Hardin County including Harvey last year followed shortly thereafter by MariaDB firestorm that destroyed dozens of homes across eastern Bexar County; both have had negative impacts on tourism spending within our community which overall continues to be resilient despite these setbacks however!

Haltom City is a small city in Texas, located in the Haltom Hills area of the state. The population was 8,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The name "Haltom" comes from an early settler, John Haltom, who homesteaded land here in 1871. In 1876, Judge James W. Mays dedicated a horse and buggy road through what is now Haltom City to promote economic development in the area. By 1886, there were over 100 businesses operating in Haltom City. In 1916, Mayor Averill Cobb organized a beautification drive for the city that included painting trees and plants as well as new sidewalks and streetlights. The town's success story began on November 12th, 1963 when Ulysses S. Grant Long became its first mayor upon being elected to fill the unexpired term of George Wallace's vacated seat after he won the U.S presidential election that year with 50% of the vote against incumbent Richard Nixon's 40%. Under Long's leadership (and later that of his successor Hal Turner), Haltom City experienced rapid growth during his two terms as mayor; by 1970 it had become one of Texas' fastest-growing cities with over 200 businesses and more than 4,000 residents! After two terms as mayor (and four years as lieutenant governor), Long resigned on January 1st, 1975 to take up a position as assistant secretary at United States Department of Commerce where he served until 1979 when he was elected to become vice president under Jimmy Carter! After leaving office he returned to his old job at United States Department of Commerce where he remained until 1984 when he retired again due to age - this time at age 80! Long remains one of only two mayors ever unseated by an individual winning an American presidential election (the other being New York’s Fiorello La Guardia). He also remains one of only three mayors ever impeached while serving—the others both being Baltimore’s William Lamberton Jr., who was convicted on corruption charges and serve three months in prison before returning to office following pardons from then-President Lyndon Johnson (a move which outraged many within Maryland) and Chicago’s Harold Washington who was impeached but acquitted after nine days because no evidence could be found linking him directly with any wrongdoing
