However, things changed around 1900 when oil was discovered on nearby Texan land which led to rapid growth in the city during that decade. By 1910, Haltom City had over 30 businesses including several banks along with over 100 residents! During World War I shortages caused many businesses to close down but due to patriotism some reopened shortly thereafter; however, most notably The Cattlemen’s Bank closed after November 1918 because of World War I patriotism alone! During Prohibition times there were also some problems associated with using firearms within city limits; however these eventually resolved themselves thanks to local law enforcement personnel working closely together! As recently as 1978!, an incident occurred where an individual opened fire on police officers while they responded to a domestic disturbance call at another property! Unfortunately for that individual he/she did not face any charges because Texas Penal Code § 691(a) states that “A person who discharge[s] any firearm or producing anything which may endanger life or property shall be guilty of misdemeanor … [and] if convicted thereof shall be punished by imprisonment for not less than six months nor more than 12 months nor fined not exceeding $500”! Haltom City, Texas is a small city located in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 694 at the 2000 census. Haltom City is located in East Texas and is part of the Tyler–Jones County, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. The history of Haltom City goes back to 1869 when James A. Haltom founded the town on his farmstead just east of Tyler, then an unincorporated community that straddled what is now Interstate 20 and State Highway 114. In 1925, after James A.'s son, John A., became mayor of Tyler, he donated land to make room for a new city hall and police department on Saginaw Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue. The name change was occasioned by the fact that all other cities in East Texas had similar names (Haltom City being one) but with no connection to their original residents or inhabitants (the "hattoms" being descendants of James A.). In 1967, Haltom City became home to the first successful open-air waterpark in Texas when it opened at Six Flags Over Texas theme park adjacent to its municipal airport; also that year it annexed neighboring Carthage Township which has since grown into a full-fledged municipality with its own government services and economy separate from that of Haltom City proper. That same year saw construction begin on what would become known as "The Lake", a large man-made pond located just northwest of downtown which would accommodate swimming, fishing, boating, crabbing and more than 400 parking spaces for visitors seeking recreation within easy reach while keeping things manageable for residents who still needed access to their homes without having too much noise or traffic congestion outside their doorsteps In 1984 Mayor Jock Mahoney announced plans for an expressway connecting Tyler with Dallas through Lubbock; this proposal however never got off the ground due to funding shortages caused by World War II veteran layoffs in Dallas as well as other economic conditions at the time In 1990 Mayor Tom Hicks announced plans for another expressway connecting Tyler with Greenville via Amarillo; this proposal was eventually approved by voters who voted 3-1 along partisan lines against it despite strong opposition from business interests across Houston metropolitan area - including many major local banks - who felt threatened by proposed road projects vital both economically and strategically located within their boundary . The city was named after General Sam Houston's brother-in-law, Colonel John Haltom, who had fought with Houston during the War of 1836. The first post office in Haltom City opened in 1871. In 1902, gold was found near present day Haltom City and rapid growth ensued; however, World War I interrupted development and caused a decline in population until the early 1920s when a large influx of refugees from Mexico restored normalcy. During World War II Haltom City became an important airfield for military operations against Japan because it overlooked much of central Texas. After the war ended, town revived as an agricultural center with production of cotton and other crops continuing through to today due to advances in agriculture technology. In 1984, horticulture became an official industry within town limits when Live Oak Nursery began producing "hay flowers" (a type of flower) at its new facility adjacent to Old Town Hall Plaza
Haltom City, Texas was originally a small frontier town in present-day east Texas. It was founded by Haltom County settlers in 1867. The name "Haltom" is from the Kiowa word hāyám (meaning "hollow"). The town site was located on the banks of the Trinity River, about two miles from its present location. The first store in Haltom City opened in 1868. By 1869, total population had increased to thirty-six residents and six businesses. In the 1870s, several sawmill and gristmill operators established themselves in Haltom City; these operations continued until around 1900. In 1881, a post office was established at Haltom City; it operated until 1907. In 1901, the first school opened within the community; it operated until 1951. In 1904, an oil well became available near Haltom City; this led to significant growth for the town during that decade. By 1910, there were over fifty residents living in Haltom City proper and twenty-five businesses operating therein. However, as oil production increased throughout East Texas during this period (particularly around Standard Oil Company's refineries), some people began moving away from Haltom City towards more prosperous settlements such as Pecos and Amarillo – leaving behind a nucleus of traditionalists who still cling to its historical values today. In 1916, when Texas statehood was granted to both East Texas and West Texas under Constitution of 1901 article IV section 3(a), then-Governor James White designated HALTOM CITY COUNTY seat of county government for both areas – effectively disbanding all but one business district within what had been municipally controlled HALTOM CITY Township since its establishment less than one year earlier as a rural community stretching along reeds bordering Trinity River with few buildings or inhabitants other than farmers working their land according to Indian Treaty Treaty provisions which allowed them seasonal access to most water resources essential for their subsistence while also shareishing some hunting rights with white men on buffalo herds which occurred occasional weekends each summer season without compensation
