The incorporation process took place without any public hearings or vote due to fears that a local government would be less beholden to county officials and more responsive to business interests within the new municipality. The growth of downtown Haltom City during this time led to concerns that annexation into neighboring counties could not keep up with population growth - so much so that members of both chambers in the TX Legislature unsuccessfully lobbied for passage of legislation creating an annexation commission specifically tasked with minimizing annexation requests by municipalities adjacent to downtown HaltomCity while still maintaining voter control over municipal decisions within Downtown HaltomCity boundaries

After the war, businesses established themselves throughout downtown Haltom City and new neighborhoods were developed around Interstate 10 and Interstate 35W north and south of downtown. The most recent incarnation of HALTOM CITY begins to take shape today as a busy commercial center for eastern Bexar County with easy access to I-10 and I-35W while preserving many historic buildings dating back more than half a century including several churches and hospitals built within walking distance or less from each other across three blocks near Main Street/I-10/35W joint exit 1A (the “Market Square”). This mixed use development provides excellent transportation options for both workers commuting into downtown from east suburban or outlying areas or visitors seeking cultural attractions close at hand without having to leave their vehicle significantly outside all day long

Since then, many new businesses have opened up in the city and it has continued to prosper despite being overshadowed by Dallas.
