Haltom City is a small town in Texas, located about sixty miles northwest of Austin. The population was 2,594 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Haltom County. The area that would become Haltom City was first settled by Texans in 1836 as part of the Republic of Texas. By 1840, the settlement had grown to include land east of the Santa Fe Trail and north of Shackelford Creek. In 1846, Haltom City became a territorial county within Travis County after Texas achieved statehood. As a result, Haltom City's status as both the county seat and principal city changed several times over its early years. In 1872, when Austin became an independent republic and set up its own government, Haltom City became the capital of Travis County and remained so until it was moved to Austin in 1901. Throughout its history as an independent republic and later as a part of Austin, however, Haltom City never lost its importance to the larger community around it. This was due in part to two factors: First,Austin was a much smaller city at that time; second, many aspects of daily life were conducted outside of city limits or through other nearby towns or villages. As Austin grew more populous and developed more centralized government functions - such as education and infrastructure development -it began to lose touch with local residents and their needs for services and activities outside of downtown Austin proper (the "Old Town"). In response, manytx-area businesses decided to move out into new neighborhoods away from downtown while others chose not to build anywhere near downtown at all but instead opened up shop elsewhere within walking distance from their customers' homes (the "New Town"). Holtzmann Boulevard served dual purposes during this time: On one hand it formed what would come to be known as "Downtown" -a commercial district containing many large stores and restaurants dating back to before Downtown made itself an official term -while on the other hand it acted as an artery connecting these two areasseparately from each other by virtue of being less traveled than most streets in Travis County at that point. This arrangement continued until Holtzmann Boulevard became jogger's path leading directly into Downtown during rush hours in the late 1990s following increased traffic congestion on Interstate 15 near I-35W . To this day there are few streets in Travis County with twice weekly weekday traffic jams like those experienced on Holtzmann Boulevard during certain periods during peak morning hours

Haltom City is a small town in Gregg County, Texas, that was founded in 1881. The population was 1,512 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Haltom City-Marshalltown, TX Micropolitan Statistical Area. The town was named for General Barton Haltom, who served as a brigadier general in the Mexican-American War and as commissioner of Indian Affairs under President Ulysses S. Grant. In 1870, George Wickersham built a log cabin on what is now State Highway 281 northwest of present day Haltom City. In 1881 Elisha Backus established his grocery store and post office in what is now downtown Haltom City; this became the first business ever located in the present day city limits of Haltom City. From 1886 to 1888 Jno.[?] Couchman operated an auctioneers office at 218 Main Street which later became home to the current courthouse and jail complex. In 1902, attorney John Fenton bought 640 acres (248 ha) east of town from A C Smith & Son for $10 per acre (4 ha). Fenton developed it into a agricultural center that grew corn, cotton and other crops until World War I when he sold it to The United States Shipping Board for use as an air raid shelter known as "the Docks". After the war it reverted back to Fenton's ownership until 1951 when it was conveyed to Marshalltown by its owner in order to create more open space within their city limits Master Plan For The Development Of Marshalltown submitted by Mayor Harry Laughlin And Commissioners Willis Rader And Floyd Pritchard On December 12th 1951 Entered Into By Mayor Harry Laughlin As Final Objection To Highland Park Corporation's Submission Of Revised Master Plan For The Development Of Marshallstown Which Was Received With Compliments By All Who Were Present January 15th 1952 - Jacob O'Neill
The city of Haltom City, Texas was founded in 1871 by John Haltom and his family. The town grew rapidly after it was incorporated as a municipality in 1872. In the late 1800s, the city became known for its cotton plantations, which were located around the lower Mississippi River. In 1915, the city lost its status as a municipally-owned town when it merged with neighboring Tyler to form Tyler-Haltom County.
