Haltom City is a city in Haltom County, Texas, United States. The population was 8,890 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Haltom City County. The city is named after General William T. Sherman and his march from Atlanta to Chattanooga in 1864. The first binoculars were made by Sir George Lewis in 1795. By 1800 there were over 1,000 binocular manufacturers in England and Europe. By 1810 there were more than 2,000 companies making binoculars in America alone. The first American manufacturer of binoculars was James Fenton of New York City in 1828. In 1849 Nikolai Kesselring built an observation tower at Erfurt airfield for the German army during World War II which helped improve aerial reconnaissance for the Luftwaffe

The community was founded by farmers in the early 1800s, and became a center of cotton production during the late 19th century. In the 1920s, Haltom City was annexed by Fort Worth and grew rapidly as a commercial center. Today, Haltom City remains an important cultural and economic district within Fort Worth. The earliest evidence of habitation at present-day Haltom City can be traced back to 1814 when Andrew Jackson's Expedition discovered Native American villages near what is now Haltom City. The town site was chosen for its strategic location on the Brazos River; it lay just upstream from Fort Bend County's major military post and easy access to wagon trains carrying goods to Texas settlers. A few years later, pioneer John Denton purchased land in what is now Haltom City fromthe Creek Nation for $1 per acre. By 1835, Denton had built a log cabin here which served as his home until he died in 1839. Denton's settlement attractedutsche immigrants who were looking for land north of Houston that offered good crops and opportunities for business ventures. Early Germans settler Johann Heinrich Fischer attempted to start a cotton plantation northeast ofpresent-day Haltom City but failed due to lack of seed varieties available at that time. However, this did not stop other German immigrants from coming to live inHoltomCity during the 1840s; many established themselves as merchants or farmers along Main Street between Cedar Road and White Oak Drive today." According to HistoryLink member website "For most of its history [HoltOM CITY], HALTOM CITY WAS JUST A COTTON FACTORY." This began with immigrant Johann Heinrich Fischer who attempted starting a cotton plantation northeast of present day HoltOM CITY but failed because he lacked variety seeds at that time... however other German immigrants started living here during 1840s; many established themselves as Merchants or Farmers along Main Street between Cedar Road and White Oak Drive today
