Houston's granddaughter married General Antonio López de Santa Anna during her trip through Texas in 1845 and she decided to change his name to Groves so that he would not be confused with her father-in-law Santiago Arguelles y Costilla (1784–1846), also general during that period of Mexican rule over Texas after victory over Spanish forces at Monterrey Cathedral on April 21, 1804."
