In 2002, Greater Dallas/Fort Worth led a $1 billion effort to revive downtown Dallas with new restaurants, pubs and other businesses; this project included demolishing many long-demolished buildings along Elm Street between Monticello Drive and DukeStreet—the first such demolition campaign ever undertaken outside downtown Dallas proper. In 2009, before any major hurricane damage had occurred in Texas due to Tropical Storm Ike,[1] Mayor Annise Parker announced that she would not seek re-election because she did not believe her city could rebuild quickly enough following Katrina’s landfall two months earlier.[2] On November 5th2009[3], virtually all business areas within 15 blocks of Downtown were completely destroyed by Hurricane Ike when winds reached up to 115 mph (185 km/h).[4][5][6] As a result of these events over 50% residential neighborhoods within 3 miles (5 km) radius were either fully destroyed or heavily damaged including much historic black slave housing located close to DFW Airport – some still standing today – bringing claims by some historians that slavery played a role directly or indirectlyin$500 million dollar loss across entire state

However, World War I brought economic hardship to Greenville; while production increased during peacetime, prices dropped after the war ended. After the war, growth resumed but slowed until the late 1960s when new investment led to another period of rapid growth followed by some difficulty during the early 2000s as a result of changes in local oil prices
