Grapevine is a town located in Gregg County, Texas, United States. The population was 7,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1867 by farmers from Illinois and Indiana who arrived on horseback from the nearby mining towns of Ozona and Westville. The first post office was established in 1868, and the name was changed to Grapevine in 1881 after a grape vine growth operation near present-day Grapevine. The first store opened on October 15, 1886. The city of Grapevine was erected in 1907 by Mayor James Ladd as an annex to neighboring Round Rock. In 1911, it annexed the village of Tyler which had been created by merging two other villages: Slaughtertown (founded 1865) and Waco (founded 1847). When Tyler merged with Grapevine, it became one municipality with a population over 10,000 residents. On July 1, 1964, when Gregg County was established, portions of Slaughtertown and Waco were annexed into Grapevine while Tyler continued to be separate municipalities until its annexation into the larger county on December 1 that same year. The industry that gave rise to much economic activity in early Vinegar Valley had died out long before Prohibition took hold in America; however cattle farming remained an important component of local society well into the 21st century. Vinegar Valley's economy centered around manufacturing: items such as adhesives for medical devices and plastics; agricultural supplies such as feed; automotive components; tires and rubber products; fruits and vegetables grown for human consumption or export purposes; among others. Grapevine, Texas is a small town in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,692 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first settlers in Grapevine were white men from Kentucky who came to permanent residence in 1853. They arrived on horseback and wagon and began clearing land for farming. By 1870, there were about fifty families living in Grapevine. The town was platted on November 5, 1871 by J. P. O'Neill with the name of a place called "Natchez". A post office was opened at Grapevine on February 15, 1872. When Texans fought their way into Mexico during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848), many of them traveled through Hudspeth County looking for new land to settle and harvest crops; among these were some of the original settlers in Grapevine. Many people from Hudspeth County also settled in later years in Addison and other towns within Hidalgo County near Austin proper; these newcomers took up farming and ranching as their livelihoods and continue to live there today1 In 1924 both Hudspeth County residents James Fenton Murphy (the father of modern day singer Willie Dixon) and Clayton Wray Daniel established Old Trinity Lutheran Church which still serves its congregation to this day2 Today's citizens of grapevine are descendants of those early pioneers who have brought agriculture, commerce and industry to their town3
