The original plat included 4 blocks including what is now Elmwood Avenue between 3rd Street NW and 7th Street NW; this block remains one of downtown's most important commercial districts today In 1915 when other cities across North America experienced dramatic population growth due to World War I, Grande Prairie saw its own boom with construction begin on several large housing developments: Southside Place (later renamed Park Cities), Hillcrest Estates (now known as Candle Lake), Highland Heights (now known as Topeka Hills), Encino Hills (later renamed Willowbrook), Westbrook Farm land east of Interstate 10 between Maple Ave & Hwy 191st St., Waco Farms west of Interstate 10 between Maple Ave & I-10 SW corner & Memorial Drive NE - these developments are also still extant today despite being redeveloped multiple times over time

A post office called Waco was established at what is now Grand Prairie on July 8, 1868. George Washington Peachey laid out a town plan forpresent day Grand Prairie on April 10th, 1870 which became known as "Peachey's Corner". In 1872 Judge Sidney Silliman bought title to 640 acres (253 hectares) east of downtown Fort Worth from James Hogg for $5 per acre ($140 per hectare). Silliman named his new Rancho San Antonio de Tarrant (later renamed Arlington Heights), later Arlington County after him and developed it into an agricultural center with plantations such as Abrams Vineyards & Winery and Chappel Hill Estate vineyards. He also built two churches: Trinity Church (now First Baptist) west of I-10 exit 3759N/W and St Andrew's Episcopal Church southeast of I-10 exit 3759S/W; these have been replaced by Alliant Energy Center building #2E and Alliant Energy Center building #3E since 1978 respectively After World War II many people left Fort Worth for jobs northward including many truck drivers who took Interstate 10 south to Houston while others took US 90 east to become Dallas Road 4 which became I-30 years later . Many families moved around during this time so when annexation occurred however some still remain in their original homes like Mrs Bowers who lived next door to her husband Dr Alonzo Bowers until he died suddenly at age 96 just before she could move out because she wanted to keep her home intact . Mrs Bowers told reporters "I can't do anything about it but stand here watching my house go away." However annexation did not mean displacement however many people did leave through choice rather than forced migration
