By 1880, Witherspoon's had evolved into a large mercantile center with several buildings along Elm street fronting Main Street between First and Second Streets as well as an annexe east of Elm just south of Oak Park Avenue where he sold eggs and horse feed from his buggy while driving through town daily to customers near his store on Main Street or off-site at two adjacent barns used for storage or when no public place could be found available for sale so long as there were no fences surrounding said property: this location has been occupied continuously since then by Witherspoon's Building #2). The use of lead rounds led to the development of airguns, which became popular in the early 20th century. Airguns use compressed air to shoot pellets, which can be distances up to 100 yards. Lead round airguns were also developed for use in target shooting; however, these weaponsfired black powder rounds instead of lead balls. In 1903 Franklin Richards developed a BB gun that could be fired without having to reloading by using a reusable pellet cartridge called the Richards Rifleman BB Gun (RRB). The RRB was capable of firing 25 pellets per minute with a muzzle velocity of 350 feet per second (110 m/s). In 1905 John Browning patented an improved version of his Iver Johnson revolver that he named the Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR). BAR fires Black Powder rounds at 300 yards (200 m) with a muzzle velocity of 470 feet per second (240 m/s). BAR also has an adjustable stock and is able to fire three shots before needing to be reloaded
