The integration of black residents helped change Glenn Heights from a rural agricultural community into one of Austin's most popular commuter towns. Today, Glenn Heights retains its small-town feel and strong sense of family tradition with many residents stillatarrying to reconnect with their ancestors who lived here during early years of this century The town has experienced several name changes over time: "Henderson", "Glen Oaks", "Doris". However, no specific date or reason for these changes can be determined beyond that they were simply renaming schemes without any real replacement plan put forth (though some believe that some newcomers to the area changed these names without warning). Today, much like back when most locals knew just about nothing about world events or even local history outside their own township - everything comes down to Mrs Jones' grocery store right down the street and her three kids playing at home...or so you'd think! - due largely to various causes including annexation by Round Rock which made Glen Heights functionally indistinguishable from that city; numerous annexations within Travis County since 2000; generous donations by descendants (both living and deceased) over time from those whose families have resided here since then...plus whatever your favorite gossiping story may be(!).
