Glenn Heights is a census-designated place in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,541 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Plano–Fort Worth Metroplex. The community originated as Glennville on the east side of Fort Worth, about west of downtown. When annexation by Dallas made Glenn Heights an incorporated town in 1901, residents chose to spell their name "Glenn" rather than "Glen." The post office was opened in 1902 and continued to be called that until 1959. In 1907 George Wickersham built a sawmill and gristmill on the east side of town and began reasonable trade with surrounding rural areas. By 1913 there were four stores, two schools (one elementary and one high school), a church, a garage and two churches ( Memorial Methodist Episcopal on State Highway 361 south of town and First Presbyterian on Elm Street). A hotel opened in 1918 but closed within five years due to low demand for rooms near Fort Worth's great commercial center. In 1928 Glenn Heights had three grocery stores (Crockett's Grocery Inc., Hannan Bros., Mrs. Ewing), four banks (First National Bank & Trust Company, Texaco Chemical Co., Pan American World Airways) and six businesses (the cooperative store Glenbrook Mills; Mr. Wickersham's mill; the bakery Rocksmiths; an ice cream parlor operated by Johnnie Greer; two residences).
The Glenn Heights community was founded in the early 1800s by Scots-Irish immigrants. The original mission of the Glen Heights Presbyterian Church was to help new immigrants find a place to live and work. The church's first building, which still stands today, was built in 1810. In 1836, the town of Glenn Heights was organized and named after General Andrew Johnston, who had fought in the Mexican-American War.
