Glenn Heights, Texas is a city in Denton County, Texas, on the southern edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The population was 97,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex and is located within Denton County. The Glenn Heights community began as a small farming town consisting of only about 100 people in 1903. Early settlers were German immigrants who had come to Texas to escape religious persecution in their home country. By 1910, Glenn Heights had become an established agricultural community with over 150 residents. In 1958, Glenn Heights became one of the first communities in Texas to adopt a gun control ordinance regulating handguns and other firearms. The ordinance prohibited individuals from possessing any handgun except those registered with local law enforcement or those possessed by members of military or police forces while on duty. At that time, most Americans lived in rural areas where guns were not commonly used for personal protection outside of hunting and target shooting activities. However, early anglers and farmers who wanted to protect their property from trespassers found usefulness in handguns for protection against poachers and otherlandowners who did not have firearm permits or licenses to carry firearms outdoors. The Gun Control Ordinance remained effective until it was repealed by then-Gov Rick Perry following the murder of then-Denton County Constable Brent Grimes by Michael Zeigler on December 5th 2009. In its place was a new law which allowed concealed handgun license holders access to carry handguns without having to obtain a permit from local government officials or face criminal penalties if they violated any laws related to carrying weapons - includingunsafely touching another person with a weapon (a felony), being caught carrying a weapon while intoxicated (a misdemeanor), etcetera

The first post office in Glenn Heights opened in 1877. In 1895, Glenn Heights had a population of 350 people. The village grew rapidly after World War II when many new families moved to Glenn Heights from other parts of Morgan County because of its good schools and wide open spaces. Glen Heights experienced economic decline starting in the 1970s as oil prices rose and associated jobs were lost throughout Texarkana and elsewhere in the state due to relocations within Texarkana proper or outside it due to advances made within Texarkana economy since then. However, beginning around 2000-2005 some renewal began with new businesses moving into town (primarily restaurants), retail strip malls opening up along I-30 near Highway 362/Upper McKnight Road exits (now known as "The Strip" area), while also some construction activity has occurred on Main Street between 3rd Street east and 4th Street west which will create more housing options soon according to current plans
