The Glenn Heights community of Texas was formed in 1854 by a group of men who purchased land from the Creek Indians. The town was named for General James Hogg, who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as governor of Texan Republic. In 1876, Glenn Heights became a city after being incorporated by an act of the Texas Legislature. The city saw growth through the development of industry and businesses such as banks, grocery stores, post office, and light rail services. By 1955, Glenn Heights had over 100 families and employed over 350 people. In 1963, the city adopted a resolution to change its name to Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW).

In 1907, Glenn Heights became a town when it amalgamated with two other towns in Johnson County: Fair Oaks and Springtown. In 1915, Glenn Heights voters passed a resolution to name their new high school "University" in honor of Baylor University's then-president David Starr Jordan. The school opened on September 15th, 1915 under the name Baylor High School and remained that way until it merged with Fort Worth High School to form Wiley College Prep in 1968. With the addition of Temple University to Fort Worth's educational portfolio (the first US university ever added to that city), Baylor High School finally vacated its campus on Main Street and moved to its present location on Westwood Drive within the boundaries of Wiley College Prep. tore down old buildings along Main Street betweenCommerce Road and Arlington Avenue - one block east of current day MacArthur Boulevard - creating what is nowglenn heights high school

By 1879, Glenn Heights had a population of over 100 people and was considered an important center for trade between the reservation and the rest of Texas. In 1886, Colonel Glenn died suddenly and his wife became the first female head of a household in Glenn Heights. She continued to lead this influential community until her death in 1902. During her lifetime, Mrs. Glenn helped establish several local schools as well as numerous businesses in her town. The town experienced some significant changes during the late 1800s and early 1900s. One such change came about due to World War I which caused a large influx of soldiers into the area. This led to new construction projects such as a water tower, post office, and school building which were all completed during these years. Additionally, Mrs. Glenn helped strenghten relationships between local Native American leaders and white settlers by hosting powwows in her home often attended by prominent Texans like Governor John Connally and President Theodore Roosevelt. During World War II, growing demand for munitions resulted in an increase in traffic through Glenn Heights limits which caused many businesses to close their doors or move out of town altogether. However, Mrs. Glen's faith never wavered; she always saw herself as an advocate for her community even when times were tough. In 1949 she donated much-needed land east of her original home to create what is now known as Glenn Heights Parkour Center; this facility has since become one of the most popular tourist destinations in Texas!
