In 1907, the name of the town was changed to Arlington after General George Washington's home county in Virginia. In 1920, Arlington annexed part of Waller County; this gave it a population of 2,811 residents. On September 20 of that year, the annexation caused some local farmers to protest with pickets lining their fields while they cultivated crops; this led to violence when local officers tried to disperse them. On October 15th,1920 Arlington Consolidated into Waller County and its citizens were forced to leave their homes for two days due to high taxes levied against them because of the annexation. Accordingly many people from Georgetown decided to move away during this time period and formed various small towns around Waller County before finally settling near Wichita Falls in 1926 In 1940sonthecitiesofFort WorthandDallasconvergedintotheagricultureareastateofthesandewysystemwaschangedtoconverttocertainplacecalledGeorgetownbecauseoftheincreasedpopulationsinthosetwo Cities."
