Georgetown is a small town in Collin County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. Georgetown is located on a bend in the Brazos River and has a post office since 1876. The town was founded by Lieutenant Colonel George Washington Bainbridge and his wife Martha Magdalen Ballard Bainbridge on November 3, 1836 as Cedar Rapids Landing on the banks of the Brazos River. Cedar Rapids Landing served as a point of embarkation for goods carried downriver to Fort Worth from what is now Wichita Falls. Georgetown was named after General William Troup's cavalry brigade that destroyed Cherokee forces near Fort Worth in 1842 during their ill-fated campaign against Mexico City under Antonio López de Santa Anna. The first store in Georgetown opened in 1881 and it became one of the largest general store chains in Texas. The store closed its doors in 1990 but reopened as an antique shop in 2006 with continuing operations until 2014 when it closed again due to financial difficulties. In 1990, the town had only 1 claim to fame – being home to Arlington National Cemetery’s first cemetery (the privately funded Old Stone Cemetery). However, this claim quickly faded as development took over nearby Arlington Heights which replaced Georgetown as the main burial ground for Confederate veterans during World War II and beyond; today almost all of Arlington National Cemetery’s graves are within walking distance of downtown Washington D.C., making Georgetown one less reason to visit this historic townspeople center each day! Today much of Georgetown remains unchanged from its pioneer days including its beautifully maintained public square that includes a fountainhead from where water provided soap for residents before pipedreamtration began; its brick homes clustered around two streets bordered by large trees; its Baptist church withits high altar/ pulpit overlooking both streets; and most importantly – its rich history! Some 90% or more of Georgetown’s original buildings still stand today making it one of America’s most intact historic towns despite decades worth of growth!

Georgetown is a small town in Harris County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolitan area. Georgetown was founded by English colonists in 1836 as a settlement called "New Beginnings." The name was changed to Georgetown in 1840 and it became a city in 1907. The first settlers of Georgetown were Methodist missionaries from Lancashire named John Wesley and his brother Richard Hill. They arrived in December 1836 on an ox wagon and began evangelizing the local Indian population with their message of Christianity. By the end of that year, they had baptized over 100 people. In 1837, they erected the first Methodist church in this location. They also founded two schools: one for boys and one for girls. In 1840, Mayor James Polk appointed Jock McIntosh to design and build the first courthouse in Texas which served as the legal center for Harris County until its creation as a separate county on July 1, 1846 under Governor David Buell's proclamation establishing Texan statehood. The building cost $4,000 to construct and opened on November 10th, 1840. At its peak it contained 24 rooms including an courtroom where trial proceedings could be televised if necessary due to high numbers of cases being brought before court during those days; four public libraries; four hospitals; three physician shops (now demolished); five stores; three garages; two wells; and seven dwellings or huts used by government officials while residing within its walls or visiting nearby towns or counties such as San Antonio de Bexar (now Austin), Pasadena (now Pasadena Hills), Galveston (now Galveston Heights), Houston (then Huffman Park), Brenham (now Richardson) and Waco (later Waco Falls). In 1907 Georgetown became known as "the City of Light." Many successful businessmen moved into this rapidly growing city including oil tycoon Aubrey McClendon and others who developed major industries such as trucking, natural gas production etc., helped spur growth throughout the 20th century which continues today with many new businesses opening up around town each day!
Georgetown was founded by the Republic of Texas in 1836. It became a city on July 6, 1872. The city was named for General James M. Georgetown, who helped lead the Texas Revolution against Mexican rule.
