The present day town was founded on September 6th 1875 when James Patton donated land to the Methodist Episcopal Church for their new church cornerstone ceremony. In 1899 Confederate General Braxton Braggs fought his last battle at nearby Palestine Creek where he lost an arm while leading Union forces into battle against General Hood's army during Operation Crossroads. This event led directly to annexation of Arlington County by Texas in 1902 which gave birth to Arlington Municipal Airport which today serves Greater Arlington with scheduled passenger flights operated by Delta Airlines mainline service departing every 20 minutes or so throughout the daytime with connections into Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). In 1990s growth within suburban Dallas caused much concern over sprawl within Georgetown limits becoming too dense for many residents who desired access both shopping malls situated close by but also long commutes necessary for employment in those suburbs while still maintaining easy access to downtown DeKalb via Interstate 10 southbound only through neighboring Irvington - demographics now have shifted more towards commuting into DFW rather than outlying suburbs

Georgetown, Texas is a town located in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Georgetown was founded by Texans in 1836 and named for George Washington's plantation on the Potomac River. In 1881, it merged with nearby Round Rock to become one of the first towns in Hudspeth County. The townsite of Georgetown has been annexed by Austin twice since then; once in 1986 and again in 2000. On July 1, 2009, Georgetown became an independent city under Mayor Janette Sadler following passage of a city charter amendment by the voters of Hudspeth County. The history of Georgetown begins with Texans coming to this area from all over Texas to ranch and farm during the early 1840s. In 1836, George Washington's plantation on the Potomac River served as a stop on travelers coming from Mexico City through what is now Austin Province (now Travis County). A group of these pioneers organized themselves into a company called "The First Hundred" and began trading goods they had acquired across the border for land around Georgetown Creek near present-day North Point Road and Stroud Drive. That same year also saw construction begin on what would become Washington Hall which would serve as headquarters for many years for local farmers, ranchers, miners and other community members who gathered there to socialize and discuss their endeavors. In 1881, when Hudspeth County was created out of parts of Bastrop (later Woodville) Parish and Culberson (later Hockley) Parish within Austin Province boundaries – including parts now known as Georgetown – most residents were still living on farms or ranches that stretched back hundreds if not thousands of acres along both banks ofthe Potomac River adjacent to what is now North Point Road/Stroud Drive carrying names like Kerr Park Rancho de la Cantera or Waco Canyon dude Rancho de las Brisas Blancas etc., this rural landscape separating today’s neighborhoods near downtown Austin from those farmed out blocks east or west side remains largely unchanged even though development has encroached rapidly along much newer arterial roads such as I-35W & US 290E over time reaching levels seen only 30 miles away east or south in Round Rock where growth rates have reached 20 times faster than here! When annexation occurred by Austin on July 1st 1886 due to mutual agreement between Dallas/Houston businessmen James Bowie (founder & president Houston Gas Light Company) & Edwin Murchison (president Baylor University), many residents + businesses who lived within easy commuting distance either left immediately for new homes elsewhere within TX OR simply rented properties outside OF THE COUNTY limits until annexation happened creating yet another layer & mini-city type situation we know today as “Austin annexing itself”! Businesses started moving back inside about 1920 but again Oak Cliff moved quicklyNOTE: This Annexation did NOT happen overnight! Many people spoke up against it stating that THEY wanted THEIR COMMUNITY BACK & NOT THE AGREEMENT OF A NUMBER OF BUSINESSES THAT WERE TO BE INCLUDED IN AN INTERNATIONAL CITY BEING ADDED TO OUR COUNTRY WITHOUT GOVERNING OVER THEIR SAYS! Some historians feel that some business owners may have been reclassified after annexation because they were not able to sell their property before its transfer process commenced so cannot be counted towards official numbers
Georgetown was founded by the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848 and named for General John A. Carroll, who had commanded U.S. forces at the Battle of Gettysburg. The town grew rapidly during the 1850s as farmers moved into the area to irrigate their crops and create new businesses. In 1875, Georgetown acquired its current boundaries when it detached from neighboring Palestine. During World War II, the town played a significant role in supporting Allied troops on both the homefront and in Europe. After the war, Georgetown experienced rapid growth as families moved into the area to continue their farming practices and businesses while also expanding their influence within local politics and society. By 1990, Georgetown had reached its pre-industrial population size and was one of Texas' fastest-growing cities.
