Binoculars have been around in Georgetown, Texas for over a century. However, over time, improved versions of these devices began being developed. In 1849, Jens Jensen created the first true Binoculor device which had 12x magnification and was known as the Jensen Binoculator. This device became popular throughout Europe and America because it allowed users to see much farther away than before! In 1892, American businessman George Washington Dixon donated 2200 pairs of binocular plates (which are still in use today) to the Georgetown Museum of Fine Arts in Georgetown TX. This donation helped start the museum’s collection of optical art which now contains over 7000 items! Throughout its history, Georgetown has been home to some very talented individuals who have contributed greatly to our city! These include painters such as John Singleton Copley (1781-1851), architects such as James Knoppers (1852-1927), sculptors such as Augustus Saint Gaudens (1856-1924), musicians such as Fats Domino (1920-1987) and Roy Orbison (1928-1989). And although many residents may not know this about them, these individuals also played an important role in developing our cityscape!

Georgetown, Texas is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas. The population was 584 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolitan area. Georgetown was founded by Texans in 1836 as a log cabin community on the banks of Buffalo Bayou. In 1886, it became the first town in Hudspeth County to be granted city status by the state government. By 1990, Georgetown had grown to include over 1,000 residents and was one of the fastest growing communities in Texas. In 2002, Georgetown was named one of "America's Top 10 Towns for Diversity" by Newsweek magazine. The City of Georgetown offers a variety of cultural attractions including its own annual WorldFest held at Memorial Stadium; an art museum; a library/theatre complex; and restaurants and bars that serve American cuisine such as Tex-Mex and African food.
Georgetown was founded in 1837 by General Sam Houston and his family. The town grew rapidly due to the Relation trade, which involved selling goods from Texas to Mexico. Georgetown became a popular center for business and education. It was also a hub of political activity during the early days of Texan independence. In 1863, Confederate General Robert E. Lee attacked Georgetown and destroyed many of its businesses and homes. The town quickly recovered, however, and became an important military garrison during the American Civil War. After the war, Georgetown experienced a period of growth that helped it become one of the most prosperous towns in Texas. It has since been renamed after George Washington Boulevard in honor of its once prominent residents and merchants.
