In 1906, Gatesville annexed the neighboring town of White Settlement and began to grow rapidly as a result of its nearby irrigation system and access to good water resources. By 1930, Gatesville had become an agricultural center with over 100 businesses catering to local farmers and consumers. In 1948, Gatesville incorporated as a city and continued to grow quickly due to its growing population, irrigated agriculture, and access to quality education opportunities.
