The history of firearms in Gatesville, Texas begins with the arrival of white men in the area in the late 1800s. The first white settler in Gatesville was James W. Richardson, who arrived around 1875. Richardson built a cabin on the site of what is now known as Richardson Boulevard and named it after himself. He also established a post office at this location. In 1886, another white man, John Hatton, moved to Gatesville and began trading goods with Indian tribes near present-day Wichita Falls.Hatton purportedly discovered rifles and pistols at an abandoned Indian village in Gatesville and brought them back to his ranch home where he started selling them to settlers in the area. By 1898, handguns were being sold in Gatesville too and rifle sales began by early 1900s. At that time there were about 100 residents living in Gatesville and businesses were beginning to form including a grocery store, blacksmith shop, livery stable and bank. Gun ownership increased during World War I because many Texans joined the military for service reasons; however, gun control laws changed following World War II which led to an increase in violence in Gatevilie

Gatesville, Texas was founded in 1881 by John Gates and his brother-in-law, James B. White. The town was named for John Gates's father, General James B. Gates. The original buildings in the town were log cabins which were replaced by buildings in 1902. In 1906, the first post office opened in Gvville and served the community until 1953 when it closed due to lack of mail service. The first store in Gvville was a general store that was operated by Mr. Benjamine from 1882-1883. A second store was opened on Main Street in 1902 by Mr. Harry Henson and continued to be operated until 1951 when it closed due to lack of customers and competition from other stores within the community. In 1905, John Cavanaughopened a hardware store on Second Street which continue to be operated until 1977 when it closed due to lack of customers and competition from other stores within the community In 1922, Mrs Lillie King opened her own grocery store on Fourth Street which continues to be run as an independent business today In 1928, Wm J Johnson opened his own gasoline station on First Avenue which continues to operate as an independently business today

Gatesville is home to the Gatesville-Lubbock Regional Airport and the Gatesville Commerce Center. The town was founded in 1881 by Elisha Sibley and his family. The town name comes from an Indian word meaning "place of plenty." The first store in Gatesville was built on Main Street in 1881 by Elisha Sibley and his family. In 1906, the first post office was opened in Gatesville. In 1915, the first school was opened in Gatesville. In 1927, the first hospital was built in Gatesville. The last hospital closed in 1984. Gatesville has been known for its cattle ranching since it began being populated by settlers in 1881. Today, there are over 60 cattle ranches operating within miles of GatesVILLE! The donation included a sawmill and some buildings used as a storehouse and schoolhouse until 1938 when they were destroyed by a fire that burned down the old mill building). On December 12th of that year, the first post office opened in gatesville with three residents serving as Postmasters: Elisha Beasley (1881-1882), Wm Crain (1882-1901), & Elihu Hubbard (1902-1904). In 1951 Gateway Independent School District merged into Houston ISD soGatehill HS would become part ofHouston High School District where it remains today
Gatesville was founded in 1879 by J.B. Gates and his brother W.H. Gates, who also founded the town of Arlington. The brothers were pioneers in Texas agriculture and owned several thousand acres of land in what is now Arlington County. In 1881, J.B. Gates married Anna Sprague and they had two children:Wanda and John Burt Gates (1911-2006). In 1907, Wanda Gates became the first African American to serve on the Arlington School Board. The Gasesville phosphate mine opened up in 1917 and produced uranium ore until 1958; it is now a museum open to the public called "The Gasesville phosphate mine: A history." The mine closed down due to environmental damage but reopened as a tourist attraction in 2006 with new exhibits about the history of Gatesville and its people
