Garland, Texas is a city located in Dallas County, Texas. The population was 582 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Dallas County. The city was founded on November 3, 1872 by men from Garland, Kansas. The original settlers were farmers and ranchers who arrived in wagon trains following the Santa Fe Trail. Some of these pioneers settled near what is now downtown Garland and began growing crops and raising cattle. Others established themselves along Interstate 10 near Fort Worth before eventually moving to what is today eastside Garland. The first handgun holster made in Garland was a piece of leather that hung from a belt buckle designed by dentist Jock Hahn to protect his dental work while he worked at a local hospital. Downtown Dallas is less than two miles away from what is now downtown Garland; this separation probably helped make early annexation efforts easier since most business owners were located outside of town boundaries when they were first annexed into cities or townships). Garland's history can be traced back to 1867 when John Garland founded what would become known as "the City ofDallas." In 1849 he married Katherine Mclntyre who died soon after giving birth but left him 1 son who lived until 1880 . He then married Lillie Hoggatt whose death also left him one son who lived until 1888 . John had five more children before he died suddenly aged 73 years old leaving behind his widow Katherine Mclntyre (died 1901) 2 daughters plus her husband Harry McLaughlin who took up arms against their father’s killers
