A major employer during this time was Texaco Refinery No.; however, many factories closed throughout the 1980s due to competition from Japanese manufacturers imports flooding into America following World War II brought about by President Ronald Reagan's efforts to revive American industry
Garland, Texas was founded by the fathers of the United States in 1827. The town first became a post office in 1829. It has been under various name forms, including Garland County (1829-1848), Dawson County (1848-1872), Waco County (1872-1907), and McLennan County (1907-present). A courthouse was built in Garland in 1849.
