Bullets have been a part of the Garland community for over 100 years. They are credited with helping to make our town what it is today. Our community was founded in 1881 by John Sibley and his family. He named it after his home, Garland, Texas. The first bullets were fired at the old Fort Worthbaseball game on April 14th, 1881. The first handguns in Garland were made by George Kapp and James Waddell in 1892. This allowed people to protect themselves against robberies and other threats they may face. In 1907, Mr. and Mrs. Averill donated a rifle range to the town which became known as the “Averill Rifle Range” today. It was used until 1949 when it was leased to the Air Force Base here in Garland! In 1978, we decided that we should put bullet holes into our municipal building! We did this because we thought it would bring more attention to our town and make us more popular with tourists! Nowadays, you can find Bullet Holes all over our town!

Garland is a city in Dallas County, Texas, United States. The population was 103,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex and has a population density of . Garland is home to the Garland Independent School District and the Garland-Commerce Regional Airport. The first people in what is now Garland were Native American who lived near what is now downtown Dallas. They hunted and fished there for food. In 1836, A&P general store owner John Witherspoon sold land to J.B. Stuart for $5,000 on which he built a cotton gin and foundry that became known as the "Witherspoon Cotton Mill." In 1854, James Hogg bought part of Witherspoon's mill site from Mr. Stuart and began to build his own cotton gin on it called the "Hogg Cotton Mill". The first railroad reached Garland in 1886 when the Dallas & Fort Worth Railway arrived through centralDallas connecting with Pennsylvania Railroad tracks near present day University Park Station (now Union Station). Garland rapidly grew as an agricultural center during the early 20th century thanks to its location along riverbanks adjacent to two major irrigation canals: Cedar Creek and Trinity River. Agricultural production increased when farmers developed new methods of growing cotton such as spray drying and cambium spraying which improved yields by 25%. Farmers also adopted more efficient irrigation systems that allowed them to grow larger crops with less water usage than their predecessors had been able to do before. By 1930, about 60% of all acreage in Garland was used for agriculture; however this figure decreased over time due mainly to technological advances which led to greater use of indoor air conditioning in buildings throughout America during this time periodresulting in declines in crop yields across most areas adjacent to metropolitan areas. The arrival of automobiles caused many small businesses around town - grocery stores being one common example -to close their doors because they could not compete with prices offered by chain stores starting up throughout North Texas during World War II (the war made things much cheaper for consumers overall). Many small businesses closed even though they did not have any direct competition from big box stores like Walmart or KMart; instead they simply bought out their smaller counterparts or relocated within city limits without setting up shop again until after WWII had ended naturally enough (except for a few scattered examples still active today outside of urban cores). In 1951, during reconstruction efforts following Hurricane Andrew having destroyed large parts of downtown Dallas including much older business districts like Market Street between Houston Street and Elm Street), City Council voted 5-1 against appropriating money from local coffers - instead relying on state funding -to rebuild downtown using private funds source since no single business district within city limits could provide that level of reconstruction/repair effort on their own behalf alone! This shows just how important it was at that time both politically AND practically speaking for citieslarge or small nationwide(read: southpaw Dallas)to band togetherand reliance ONLY ON STATE FUNDING FOR PUBLIC WORKS WAS PREVAILENT UNTIL AFTER THE GREAT DISASTER OF 1950!!! From then until now... Municipalitieswithin DALLAS COUNTY HAVE CONTINUED TO REPAIR DOWNTOWN WITH THEIR OWN FINANCIAL MECHANISM EVEN THOUGH STATE FUNDING HAS BEEN CHANGING AS MORE ENTERTAINMENT CENTERS ARE BUILT AND MORE CITIES OUTLINE THEIR INDEPENDENCE FROM REGIONAL GOVERNMENTS! Today we enjoy some wonderful aspects brought about by our rapid growth such as job opportunities available throughout our city proper plus neighboring towns while continuing our focus on providing quality public services including education through our schools system while also maintaining continued economic development opportunities both inside & outside our boundaries!

It became a city in 1907 and was named for General Edwin L. Garland, who served as military governor of East Texas during the Mexican War. In 1940, the city merged withince to form Dallas County. The current mayor of Garland is Dan Patrick. When Americans first set foot on what is now present-day Texas in 1836, they were preceded by groups of Indian traders and travelers who had been sailing up the Rio Grande for centuries. By 1849, American settlers had arrived in what is now southeastern Webb County and began hunting and farming land that would become the municipality of Garland (later renamed to Wichita Falls). On November 20, 1879—one hundred years ago today—the first action taken by City Council to establish Garland as a city was carried out when it voted 3-2 to rename the village after Edwin L.Garland, then military governor of East Texas during Mexican War (1846-48). At that time Wichita Falls was only an agricultural settlement with a few dwellings and no civic or economic development; Garland’s growth came about due to two factors: its location within easy walking distance of Fort Worth – one of America’s most important army posts at that time – as well as its proximity to railroads which led to increased trade opportunities for both communities. The early days of Garland were difficult because there were few paved streets or other public amenities available aside from a church and schoolhouse which rudimentary infrastructure did not allow for much commerce or entertainment beyond agriculture until more roads and lights appeared around 1900 including arterial Streets like Elm Street leading northward into Wichita Falls while Main Street led southward into Fort Worth; also having very limited access to water resources other than wells dug deep into local hillsides providing little challenge except heavy rains which could quickly turn rivers into raging torrents Recalling history: On November 20th 1879 when City Council established Garland as a city it voted 3-2 to rename the village after Edwin L.-Lloyd Garland then Military Governor East Texas during Mexican War In 1940 Dallas County merged with Webb County creating what is now eastern part of TX
