Galena Park is a town in Hood County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,827 at the 2010 census. Galena Park is located in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Galena Park is bounded by Slaughter Road to the north and east, Floyd Road to the south, and Lakewood Boulevard to the west. The townsite was laid out by John C. Caldwell in 1872 as part of what would become Dallas Township. In 1907 it was annexed into Arlington Heights Township and named for General George Armstrong Custer who died in battle near Fort Worth that year. In 1912 it became part of Arlington Heights again when it was transferred from Hood County to Arlington Township; but reverted back to Galena Park name in 1928 after its incorporation into hood county. It has been said that the town motto "All That Is Good In Life" was given to it by a local farmer who had seen that alligators were common on nearby Slaughter Road during Agriculture Day ("Festival day"), which coincided with October 25th each year until 1935 when statehood made such events unimportant statewide. Consequently, residents chose "Galena" because there were no other towns within a radius of 10 miles (16 km). In 1915 The American Legion Post #1 organized an agricultural fair which featured country dances andabstract art exhibitions under tents erected along Slaughter Rd between Waxahachie Rd and I-35W; this event helped promote agriculture among army veterans returning home from World War 1 who needed work opportunities after their service abroad
