Galena Park, Texas is a small town located in the Fort Worth-Arlington-Dallas metropolitan area. The population was 29,651 at the 2010 census. The popularity of target shooting has been around since the early 1800s and began to grow in popularity during World War I when soldiers needed to practice with their firearms. Since then, target shooting has become an integral part of American culture. Many people from all over the United States come to Galena Park for target shooting matches and other events related to this activity. The first gun target park was founded in 1883 by Captain John Ahern in what is now known as Old Galena Park on land that he owned near present day Elmendorf Road and White Oak Drive. Captain Ahern set up several targets on his property which served as a training ground for local riflemen until 1889 when Colonel Edwin Jagger established anothergun range on nearby East Meadow Road. In 1907, Captain Alfred Tubb established the current Galena Park Target Range which still operates today. During World War II, many GALENA PARK GUN TARGET RANGES were converted into BATTLEFIELD ZONES where military personnel could engage in live fire exercises with their rifles or pistols while practicing convoy security or antisubmarine warfare missions ashore. By 1945, most of these ranges had been closed due to advances in technology but some remain open today as community centers used as gun ranges and educational institutions use them for purposes such as annual tournaments or NRA shoots (National Rifle Association). Today,Galena Park is home to one of the largest indoor target ranges in North Texas with over 300 acres of firing range space including ten lanes of accuracy shooters matting along two walls measuring 50 feet wide by 25 feet high providingMultiple Targets at any given time! The Galena Park Gun Club was founded in 1892 and meetings were held at the old Agricultural Society building. The first club members included Johnnie Bowers, J.H. Cooks, Wm.Fowler and E.H. Caldwell. In 1902 the first open-air target shooting event took place and the club became an annual event with ashootin’ match on opening day of every year. In 1934 the club moved to its current location on Old Mill Road near Loop 410 in Galena Park TX and continued to hold annual events until 1979 when it disbanded due to lack of memberships or money for repairs/maintenance! After dissolution, the club's archives were stored at Texas A&M University’s Special Collections Library where they are currently being digitized and available online as part of theirgunsandguns project!
Galena Park is a small town in WillACY County, Texas, United States. The population was 595 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Galena Park post office was established in 1892. The first store in Galena Park was built by Mr. and Mrs. Augustus Hulse on Main Street near the present day Walnut Avenue intersection. In 1897, land east of the current site of Galena Park was donated to Galena Park by George Waring and his wife Jane Lanier Waring for $1,000 per acre (2 hectares). In 1907, Harry Fenton opened an ice cream parlor in what is now the historic old district of Galena Park. In 1913, Jens Jensen started a grocery store on League Road adjacent to the old schoolhouse that still stands today known as "Jensen's Grocery." That same year saw the incorporation of Galena Park as a town with its own government and police department under the name "Galenia Township." By 1915, there were six businesses located in what is now downtown GaleniaPark: four stores (Fenton's Ice Cream Parlor, Jensen's Grocery Store, Harry Fenton's Ice Cream Parlor & Bottle Shop), one hotel and two schools: One school operated by Laddie Pyeoux School District No. 2 (now Plano Independent School District) from 1916 until 1918 when it merged into Laddie Pyeoux School District No. 1; one high school which served students from 1917 until 1949 when it merged into Plano High School; and two churches: First Baptist Church which functioned from 1916 until 1949 while Methodist Church operated from 1911 until 1951 when it merged with First Baptist Church; both churches are currently inactive but can be visited via Historic Site Listing #5483 available online at http://www2a0 galeniaparktxs09726a4

Galena Park is a small town in Bastrop County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. Galena Park is located on the Brazos River near its mouth on the Trinity River. It is named after a mineralogy professor from Edinburgh, Scotland who first collected galena ore in this area in 1859. The first settler in Galena Park was James Hargrave. He built a cabin and store near present day US Highway 377 and what is now FM 19606 in 1865. The ranch of John Witherspoon ran along FM 19606 for many years until it was bought by James Ahern in 1906. In 1908, Ahern added 4 acres (1 km²) to his ranch and called it "Galena Park". In 1916, Harry Henderson made an unsuccessful attempt to establish a cotton gin at Galena Park when he opened the Henderson Cotton Gin&Bread Mill there. This mill closed about 1930 but has been preserved as part of the Bastrop County Courthouse Museum since 2006. In 1924, J P Gleason bought 15 acres (50 m²) of land north of US Highway 377 between present-day FM 19606 and FM 627 for $3 per acre (0.98 km²). Gleason named his new development "Galena Park" after his home country's capital city - Edinburgh - which he had visited two years earlier while on vacation with his family. The Gleason tract became one of Bastrop County's most popular rural areas for housing because of its convenient location close to shopping centers and schools." In 1939, World War II began with Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor and subsequent declarations of war against America; Galena Park became one of several Uptown Dallas communities that were directly impacted by hostilities including shuttering their businesses and loss of jobs during wartime shortages caused by rationing policies set by the American government.
