The depot was built in 1892 as an ammunition plant by the Galveston Reduction Workshops, Inc. The plant was sold to Remington Arms Company in 1929, and became part of the company’s Western Division. In 1965, Remington merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company, forming what is now Remington Arms Company Western Division. In 1978, Galveston Arsenal Ammunition Depot closed due to financial problems and its operations were transferred to nearby Fort Worth Armory Museum.
