Galena Park is located in Hays County, Texas, and has been a center of gun culture for over 100 years. The first guns in Galena Park were pistols made by the local blacksmiths. In 1881, Galena Park was founded as a town and began to prohibit handguns. In 1916, Galena Park passed an ordinance that allowed concealed carry of handguns. This ordinance remains in effect to this day. In 1949, the city banned all handguns but those having a license from another state or country. The history of gun lights can be traced back to 1909 when two men named Harry Lange and John Jorgensen designed and built the first electric lightbulb in Galena Park. These bulbs were used to show off their firearms at skeet matches and other events around town. In 1923, George Wistar developed the first handgun with an illuminated magazine that could be fired by hand alone. This handgun became known as the Wistar Target Pistol. The following year, Wistar also founded World Archery Equipment Corporation (WAE). This company manufactured both sporting rifles and handguns under several different brands name including “Wistar Arms” and “Wesley Smith & Sons” until it merged with Browning Firearms Company in 1958 to form Browning-Arsenal Corporation (BAC). In 1934, Carl Ambler developed what would become known as the Ambler Rifle which utilized a high powered rifle scopeto fires rounds through a barrel shroud onto targets placed at various distances away from the shooter. In 1935, Ambler also founded American Gun Manufacturing Company (AGM) which manufactured both sporting rifles and handguns under several different brands name such as “Ambler Guns” and “Ambler Firearms Co., Inc..” until it merged with Remington Arms Company in 1968 to form Remington-Hornady Corporation (RHC).

Galena Park is an unincorporated community in Houston County, Texas, United States. It lies along the east bank of the Buffalo Bayou and is northeast of downtown Houston. As of the 2010 census, Galena Park had a population of 853 people. The community was founded in 1885 by George A. Hinton and his family as a station on the Buffalo Bayou. The Galena Park post office was established in 1886, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1893. The first store opened in Galena Park on October 12, 1885, by Gertrude Hinton and her husband George A. Hinton Sr.. The original home for the Hintons at 6451 Navigation Road still stands today, used as a garage for many years before being sold to James Fenton in 1924. In 1926 Fenton built a new home at 6474 Navigation Road which served as his headquarters for many years until he sold it to Harry Cisneros in 1959. Galena Park developed quickly due to its location on the Buffalo Bayou and its easy access to transportation including streetcar lines that ran through town from 1895-1920; buses that operated from 1913-1924; and automobiles that arrived soon after they became available across Texas (the first being purchased by Jens Weidemann). By 1930 there were over 100 businesses located within blocks of Galena Park's central square where citizens could gather for shopping or other purposes during summertime. By 1940 most residents had moved away due to competition fromHouston's burgeoning city center but some returned during World War II when Galena Park became one of several military posts throughout Houston County maintained by the U.S Army Air Forces' VIII Corps Air Base squadron number 43 (HQ USAFE). During much of this time activities such as music concerts, dances and picnics took place outdoors near Independence Hall Grounds while electricity continued to be provided via horse power until 1951 when electric lights were introduced; electric heating began about this same time also making living conditions more comfortable indoors especially for young children who resided inside their homes until recently when air conditioning became common both inside and outside homes automation has made life much easier with few if any negative consequences

The couple named their new settlement after the mineralogy company that they were working for at the time. It served as a crossroads for travelers on the Butterfield Overland Trail and later became a center of cotton production. After Galena Park's incorporation as a town, it began to grow rapidly with the opening of several retail stores and businesses around the 1920s. In 1924, Galena Park established its own school system which continued to grow until it merged with nearby White Settlement in 1957. By 1960, Galena Park had reached its current size with over 2,000 residents. A number of industries have passed through or are currently active in Galena Park including automotive manufacturing (including Buick), health care (including Kaiser Permanente Health Care System), ranching and agricultural pursuits (such as corn ethanol production).
The Galena Park community was founded in 1849. The post office was established in 1850, and the first store was opened in 1851. By 1865, there were 10 businesses in the community. In 1897, a school was built and operated by the Methodist Church until it closed in 1906. In 1908, Galena Park incorporated as a town. The first mayor of Galena Park was Wm. H. Silliman.
