The first rifle scopes were made by a man named Nicholas-Jacques Conte in 1795. He designed and built the first telescopic sight for a musket, which he called the "Aigle". The design was based on an old military telescope with a focusing tube that became attached to the barrel at the front. This allowed shooters to fire projectiles over long distances with accuracy. In 1824, Colonel John Brownlee of England developed a new type of telescopic sight known as a "bine." His device consisted of two lenses placed close together along one side of the barrel and focused through an aperture at the back of the lens.
