A railroad station was built at what is now Elm Street in 1912, but it closed down in 1916 due to lack of passengership. In 1925, US$1 million were invested in two projects - development of an airport on land east of Elm Street near Interstate 20 (then State Highway 10) and the construction of a water tower along Elm Street near Businessman Boulevard - which led to the founding of Frisco Municipal Airport Inc., also known as "Frisco Airport". In 1933, when it became apparent thatTexaco's oil production would end within five years due to advances in petroleum technology, Governor John Connally ordered all state agencies involved with gasoline marketing be dissolved except for State Highway 476 which would remain under Texaco's control until 1938. This order created an opportunity for local businessmen Clyde Drexler and Jack McCloskey who had been running Texaco's research laboratories since 1931 to develop new ways to produce gasoline without using crude oil from Texas fields. Drexler and McCloskey came up with a plan to use ethane trapped during natural gas drilling operations to make gasoline instead of crude oil. They leased land adjacent to Texaco's Great Lakes Refinery on Temple Drive in Frisco where they began producing fuel from ethane starting in 1938. By 1941, they had produced over 2 million barrels per day (bpd). In 1945, when World War II ended and Mobil merged with Texaco, Drexler leftTexaco to become president of Mobil while McCloskey became vice president; both men held their positions through the next several decades until their retirement effective December 31st 2000..
