The history of ammunition in Frisco, Texas goes back to the early 1800s. The area that is now Frisco was originally a part of Mexico and was known as the Land of the Mescalero Apaches. This tribe used arrows made from cactus wood and other natural objects as projectiles. In 1836, General Sam Houston founded an outpost in present-day Frisco and began trading with the Mexican government. He also started developing a cannon that could fire tobacco rounds instead of artillery shells. On July 6, 1839, Houston called for all Texans to arms against Mexico in what is known as the Battle of San Jacinto. The Texan victory helped establish America’s claim to independence from Spain. American traders soon begun supplying Mexico with batteries of cannons and ammunition. In 1847, Captain James Waddell founded the first store in present-day Frisco dealing in firearms and supplies for Mexicans fighting against Americans during the Mexican-American War (1846-48). During this time, Texas passed legislation allowing citizens to own arms for self-defense purposes. This allowed Texans to join forces with their Mexican counterparts in order to overthrow Santa Anna’s rule over California and return independence to Mexico! By 1850, there were more than 20 stores operating throughout Texas selling firearms and supplies related to warfare! In 1860, following secession fromTexas, cities across the Southwest declared themselves independent republics – each seeking its own form of government without federal supervision or support. As a result, businesses such as Captain James Waddell’s became targets for Confederate sympathizers or pro-Unionists looking to suppress Republican sentiment within their jurisdictions. On April 14th 1861 – one week before Confederate troops attacked Fort Sumter – Waddell opened his store on Elm Street in downtown Frisco “to give peaceable residents Opportunity To purchase Arms And Ammunition Against The Rebels Within Our Borders” (Frisco Historical Society Museum pamphlet).Shortly thereafter Union troops burned his store down; however, its loss did not deter others from stocking ammo at this time. A few weeks later on May 2nd 1861 Colonel Robert Ewell led Confederate forces into town square under false pretenses of defending it against possible Union attack; however he instead unloaded his entire stock of munitions onto Elm Street! This event marked the beginning of what would be known as The Raid on Dallas by Confederate forces two months later which resulted in over 50 deaths (including 10 deputies) among local civilians including many draftees from Folsom Prison who had been offered amnesty if they joined up with their Confederacy! For years afterwards Dallas Residents referred to these events as THE RACE TO THE KILL when political tensions boiled over during disputes between factions within society
