Friendswood was founded in 1876 by James H. Friend and his wife, Emma. The City of Friendswood was incorporated on July 1, 1902. In 1916, the Friendswood Business Association was formed to promote industry and commerce within the city limits. In 1952, Friendswood became a city with its own police department.
