There have been various shootings in Friendswood, Texas over the years. The first shooting occurred on October 3, 1955. It was reported that a man named Earle Glick killed four people and injure six others at his home before turning the gun on himself. The shootings continued sporadically until 1976 when there was an all-out attack on a group of teenagers by three gunmen at a park. Thirty-six people were shot and thirteen were killed. In 1984, two gunmen opened fire on a group of people playing pool in broad daylight outside of a local convenience store killing five people and wounding nine others. A year later, another gunman killed four people and injured thirteen others at an amusement park before turning the gun on himself. From 1992 to 1994, two gunmen opened fire on pedestrians near Friendswood High School leaving four dead and twenty-four injured. In 2000, two gunmen walked into a high school classroom filled with students and shooting eleven children dead before turning the gun against themselves. The current mass shooting in Friendswood took place December 14th when three shooters entered the high school and began Shooting indiscriminately kill(ing) innocent classmates and teachers before turning the gun against themselves (one died as a result).

In 1984, Friendswood enacted an ordinance that requires all guns purchasers to provide proof of insurance that covers injuries or death caused by any firearm used in lawful hunting or target practice. The law also requires sellers to display a conspicuous notice stating that this information is available at no cost on request. Since 1993, Friendswood has also required all handguns sold in town to be registered with the county sheriff’s office and have a serial number documenting their fabrication date and make/model number. This program helps identify unauthorized handguns which may be involved in crime or accidental discharge.
