After several years of testing it was determined that the groundwater near Freeport had high levels of lead and arsenic which made it unsafe for people to drink or wells to use well until those problems were fixed. In 2013-2014 another round of testing found high levels of aluminum in groundwater near Freeport which made it unsafe for humans to drink or wells to use well until those problems were fixed as well
