In recent years, freeport has been struggling economically; however officials have announced plans to redevelop areas such as Main Street into retail space and create new jobs in parkland adjacent to downtown Freeport. Despite these challenges, Freeport remains an important regional center for trade and commerce within San Patricio County - home to many local businesses including Tyson's Corner Market and Walmart - making it an attractive place for businesses looking for growth or expansion opportunities outside their hometowns.
