In 1846, General Antonio L. Houston purchased the rights to a tract of land in Fredericksburg, Texas from Judge James Caldwell for $5,000. The site was chosen because it offered good hunting and grazing opportunities and its location on an east-west watercourse made it a convenient spot for settlement. In 1849, Houston founded the town of Fredericksburg on the site of present day Fredericksburg. The town was named after General Houston's father-in-law, Colonel John Buford Randolph. The Battle of San Jacinto took place near Fredericksburg in 1845 and resulted in the death of Mexican general Pancho Villa. As a result of this event, many Texans came to support American forces against Mexico during the Mexican–American War. In 1861, Confederate troops invaded Texas and captured Fort Hood near Fredericksburg. This event led to increased military activity around Fort Hood and helped persuade President Abraham Lincoln to declare war on Confederate States of America (CSA) in April 1861. During World War II, much effort was expended by both the United States government and local businesses to produce munitions at nearby Richmond Arsenal as part of Project Paperclip which aimed to Intelligence gain information about enemy combatants within Nazi Germany using prisoners-of-war (POWs). Many soldiers who served in North Africa or Europe also volunteered their services to help with Project Paperclip when they learned about Allied efforts to increase intelligence gathering abroad while incarcerated by Axis powers such as Italy and Japan (see Japanese POWs).
Fredericksburg, Texas is a small town located in the Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,838 at the 2010 census. The community is named after General George Washington's birthplace and home. It started as a stop on the Santa Fe trail. In 1836, when Mexican forces attacked General Sam Houston's army at Buffalo Bayou near Fredericksburg, they burned down the general's home to dissuade him from coming to help them fight against Mexico. The original settlers were farmers and their families who arrived in 1836 from Kentucky and Tennessee. The first post office was established in 1837 and was called Dutch Fork Station because it lay along the Dutch Fork of the Trinity River. In 1839, when Texans founded what would become Hudspeth County, they renamed the village Fredericksburg after General Washington because he had been their hero during the Battle of San Jacinto. In 1860, due to secession by Texas from the Union, most of Hudspeth County seceded and became Confederate territory; however, much of Fredericksburg remained in Union hands until 1865 when it became part of Transylvania County under Confederate control until its surrender. In 1865-1866 Union troops burned down several homes in Fredericksburg as part of an effort to destroy any evidence that Confederates had remaining inside. This destroyed many early cotton farming settlements in central Texas which would never be rebuilt following such a destructive attack. A few years later some new settlers began arriving who were attracted by its strategic location on Ulysses S Grant's route through Central Texas connecting Austin with points south before eventually reaching Mexico City overland through Brownsville et al.. They built large frame houses on both sides of Main Street where today many entrepreneurs still live including one local man who manufactures CDs and DVDs there using advanced digital technology invented by his son-in-law while living there recently (2006). Today most people here are descendants or recent immigrants from countries such as China (mainly), India (mostly), Philippines ( principally), Korea ( mainly), Vietnam (primarily) or Latin America etc.. Many have also returned here for various reasons such as shortening distances between different parts of their homeland or simply wanting more opportunities for economic growth than elsewhere within those regions/countries etc.. Some older residents recall that back then school was free for young children up to age 16 so that they could learn about American history and government before going off to high school etc... One resident even recalled being allowed into Freedom Hall during Reconstruction so she could watch President Abraham Lincoln deliver his Gettysburg Address! Today another resident says "It doesn't matter how good your education is now - if you don't have work skills we're going to send you back!" Although life has changed significantly since then especially with allusions like this one constantly peppering our conversations I can still vividly remember my teenage years spent exploring this beautiful region full of friendly people just waiting patiently for me return!

Of these residents 1/3 lived below poverty line; 8/10 worked full-time outside their home country or state while living here illegally; 60% had less than high school education while only 31% had some college experience; 50% were single mothers with children under age 16 without fathers present or available; 3/4ths reported being uninsured when they first moved here 11 years ago; 5% have now retired from their day job but are still maintaining an ownership stake in their business within this same township.;

The post was moved to its present location in 1847, when the Chickamauga and Chattanooga Rivers were combined into one large stream. In 1865, following the Battle of Gettysburg, Fredericksburg became an important strategic point along I-35W and 12th Street NE. It remained an important military objective until after World War II. In 2010, Fredericksburg was recognized as a Unesco World Heritage Site for its significance in American history.
