In 1924–25 (the centennial year of Fredericksburg's incorporation as a municipality), local officials spearheaded efforts to design new courthouse architecture inspired by Spanish Colonial Revival style examples from San Antonio de Bexar County; this effort led to construction of what is now known as "Old City Hall." On July 16, 1911 – just shy of four decades after incorporation – downtown Fredericksburg experienced its first commercial tornado when all five branches of First National Bank sustained damage not far from Woodward Avenue between Cedar Street and Elm Streets resulting in $10,000 loss to insureds On December 1st 1969 marks 100 years since community members organized into groups to erect Confederate battle flags throughout town after state troops burned buildings containing such flags following order from then Governor David Edwards
