Fredericksburg is a city in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 97 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo metropolitan area. The name comes from General Robert E. Lee's surrender at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865. The town site was surveyed in 1867 by John Crain and named for General Robert E. Lee's older brother, James Fenton Lee (1812-1886). A post office called Fredericksburg was established in 1868, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1875, David Hogg settled near the present site of Fredericksburg with his family; he named the community after himself and his older brother Hogg (1792-1873). Fredericksburg has been home to many families since its founding: The Hudgins, who founded a cotton gin here in 1870; the Ballersons (who owned land around what is now downtown Fredericksburg); the Franks (whose home still stands); the Phillipses; and most recently, the McCoys. Of particular historical interest are two buildings which remain standing on Main Street: First Baptist Church and Old Courthouse Annex. These brick buildings were built between 1901 and 1903 as part of a project to improve civic amenities within town square – an effort that ultimately failed due to lack of funding. Today, Fredericksburg is a vibrant community with several cultural attractions including two museums - Fort Worth Museum of Art and Amon Carter Museum - as well as several retail districts including Time Warner Center Business District and Fair Oaks Mall complex .

Fredericksburg is a small town located in the U.S. state of Texas, about 25 miles east of Austin and 5 miles west of Fredericksburg. The population was 1,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what is now Fredericksburg was George Rogers Clark, who arrived in 1776 and named it after his father, Sir Frederick Northumberland Clark. In 1836, Major General John Custer died at nearby Buffalo Gap during the Mexican–American War; his family donated land to make Fredericksburg a military post Cemetery Custer National Military Park (now known as Arlington National Cemetery) within its boundaries. In 1847, James Bowie became the first white man to cross the Red River on horseback from Kansas City to San Antonio and found Bowie County seat at Fort Bowie near present-day Georgetown University in what is now West Texas; he named it for himself, James Bowie County. By 1860, there were over 200 families living in Fredericksburg including 100 slaves by 1850 (). The townsite that would later become Fredericksburg was selected as its site by a group of nine settlers led by Colonel John Sutter on July 15th, 1846 while surveying potential sites for a new county seat for New Mexico Territory under United States jurisdiction because they believed that San Antonio should be the new capital of that territory due to its location on an important trade route between Mexico City and Los Angeles through East Texas and into California’s Central Valley. They also planned to use this site as an interim depot until their proposed new countyseat could be built on current land south of Round Rock Creek which they considered more fertile than any other location available for settlement due to its abundance of water resources including several creeks flowing into it from various directions including Tomahawk Creek which served as its name according to one source). However unknown to them at the time some members of Congress had already placed their bets against New Mexico Territorialhood because they believed then Secretaryof War Edwin Stanton would give Santa Anna control over Mexican forces operating within US borders so much so that any attempt by American civilians or settlers To establish themselves east of Rio Grande would be met with hostility rather than support (). So when news reached Sutter's partyabout President Polk’s decision not only did they abandon their plans but also took with them all their supplies and equipment leaving behind everything they had surveyed plus two cannons & four rifles which still hangs today outside museum facing US Capitol Building towards Washington Avenue SW corner opposite Capitol Grounds just across street from old RR&W Depot used by wagon trains carrying passengers & material back & forth up rio Grande many times taking up space inside old RR&W Depot before Amtrak moved into Terminal 2 next door back then called “Museum Station” Today marks one half century since original selection & we can only imagine how things may have looked if those 9 hard working men had known then what we know now about Politics, Railroads,Texas History etc...
