Fredericksburg is a town in Webb County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what became Fredericksburg arrived in 1827. A post office was established here in 1831, and by 1840 there were sixty-eight residents. The first school opened here in 1836. In 1881, the town incorporated as a city and began to grow rapidly thanks to its good transportation infrastructure and access to markets. By 1910, it had a population of 3,000 and was home to two banks and four colleges/universities. In 1916–17, World War I led to an increase in the military presence in Webb County; as a result, many businesses closed down or relocated their operations to other parts of the country during that time period. During World War II much of downtown Fredericksburg was destroyed by fire – but within days most of the buildings had been rebuilt with new materials and construction techniques due to advances made during that war including synthetic rubber technology which allowed for faster rebuilding than traditional methods used before then). Fredericksburg was founded in 1836 by Captain James K. Polk, on the banks of the San Jacinto River. It quickly became a center of trade and culture in this developing region, with its many plantations and large city-owned businesses. The town grew rapidly during the late 19th century, reaching its peak population of over 100,000 in 1890. However, following World War I and the economic slump of the 1920s, Fredericksburg started to decline again. Its population peaked at around 25,000 in 1930 but declined sharply to 10,000 by 1940. It has since decreased to around 5,000 people today. Located just east of Austin on Interstate 35W (the old Mexican border), Fredericksburg is one of Texas’ most picturesque towns dating back to its earliest days as a settlement. The town’s architecture is characterized by Federal/Old West style buildings built between 1836 and 1860 for local farmers and traders. Some notable buildings include the Post Office (1856), Methodist Episcopal Church (1860), Presbyterian Church (1868), Baptist Church (1870), and several freight trainsheds located near downtown that remain standing today as part of museum displays about early American agriculture and transportation history. Today, Fredericksburg remains an important stop onTexas Route 6 for tourists looking for stunning views of Mount Hood from atop its high hills or easy access to hiking trails close by including the 1 mile long John Wesley Powell Trail that circles the town center as well as shorter trails off nearby streets such as Main Street which runs along both sides of downtown with views upriver all the way to Mount Hood National Park across Buffalo Bayou

Federicksburg was founded in 1849 by John W. Fredericks and his wife, Margaret. It became an important center of cotton farming and trade in the Texas Plains region. The city was named after General Robert E. Lee, who led Confederate forces during the American Civil War. In 1865, Federicksburg surrendered to Union troops under Ulysses S. Grant and lost its status as a town. Today, Federicksburg is a small community located east of Houston within Brazoria County.
