Forney was established in 1878 as a stagecoach stop on the Butterfield Overland Mail route. On May 10, 1886, James Averill erected a sawmill and gristmill near present-day downtown for grinding flour for local residents and merchants who transported goods via horseback or wagon across Cedar Creek Valley east to Dallas or west to Wichita Falls or Changeville on the Brazos River; these mills continued until 1907 when they were combined into one mill under the new name Cedar Creek Mills; later still this mill changed hands several times before it finally closed down in 1968 due to economic difficulties within the industry; In 1911 Fort Worth annexed portions of Arlington which included most of what is now Forney On December 16th 1912 Forney had its first election as an incorporated town with 7 members On July 1st 1913 Graco Incorporated arrived from Comanche County TX bringing their line of grocery stores called The Graco Store

This property would become what is now known as POST HUME FORNEY FARMS LLC where various descendants still reside today including current CEO & President Phillip Pickering!
