Forest Hill is a town in Haskell County, Texas, United States. The population was 3,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo–The Plains Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Forest Hill was John Crouse in 1857. The post office called Forest Hill "Forsyth" until 1907. In 1861, James Prentice built a log cabin on what is now known as Main Street. He and his wife named their daughter Forest Hill after the hill near their home in England where they were born and raised. In 1865, Jno Vaught bought 1/4 mile of real estate extending from present-day Elm Street to Dutch Creek which became the town limits of Forest Hill on July 1, 1865. By 1870, there were three blacksmith shops open; one of these operated by Wm Henson until 1874 when he closed shop due to lack of customers or competition from white smiths who had opened earlier that year. A cotton gin was built west of present day Elm Street around 1875 by Fenton Cotton Gin Co., Incorporated date unknown but likely c1875 under name Cedar Springs Ginnery which continued operation until 1898 when it burned down according to history books however this actually may have been done before because records do not mention it being rebuilt after the fire so it most likely occurred during that time frame On February 5th 1886 an act entitled "An Act for more effectually carrying into Execution an Act for Provision for Negroes within the Territory aforesaid" passed by Congress resulted in Forrest Hill becoming a city with a mayor and vice-mayor elected at large instead of township form with two officials per township . Because no African American could be elected as Mayor or Vice-Mayor effective immediately following passage of this act many residents chose to ballot themselves into office rather than accept appointment from their white counterparts thus resulting in City Halls located at 2nd & Dallas Streets (now Main & Elm) while black residents took up residence at First &Main streets (now 2nd & Oak). On October 15th 1888 Elijah Muhammad organized his own Nation of Islam mosque located on 4th Street between Main and Elm Streets serving both African Americans and Muslims alike throughout Haskell Countythus making Forrest Hills one dimensional Islamic enclave although Mosque's operations continue today

Today, Forest Hill is a thriving community with over 160 residences and businesses including two schools, three churches, a post office, a hospital/medical services complex, several stores and restaurants.
On November 5, 1836, the first white settlers in present-day Forest Hill, Texas arrived. The town was named for General Zachary Taylor, who had won the Battle of Palo Alto during the Mexican-American War.
