Forrest Gumpsey became one of Town's earliest residents and used this land to grow cotton until he sold it in 1886 to Wm Fenton for $5 per acre. The growth of forested land around town allowed for more independent farming practices which continue to this day; today's forested area includes over 15 miles (24 km) of trails that offer opportunities for hiking, biking, birdwatching, and fishing. On July 1st 1870 John Wesley Powell arrived at Fort Worth with his family from Churubusco Indian Reservation via stagecoach after spending four years prospecting for oil fields in Oklahoma Territory Upon reaching Fort Worth he went into business as an oiler/driller until 1876 when he founded American Oil & Gas Company with some associates while living in Fort Worth In 1888 Forrest Gumpsey sold his interest in American Oil & Gas Company to Wm Fenton In 1890 Forrest Gumpsey married Beulah Atherton Mrs Fenton ran her own parlor store until she died in 1916 but her son continued operations as Wm Fenton Petroleum Corporation until 1947 when it merged with Houston Petroleum Corporation forming Texaco Inc . However when Texaco was bought out by ExxonMobil it reverted back to its original name FMG Industries Incorporated . After years of reorganizationFMG Industries merged again with Anaconda Copper Mines corporation Forman Copper Mines division On February 25th 2003Texaco Inc announced that they were going through Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection due largely to their investments IN COALITION WITH ENERGY STAR

On July 29, 1942, 2nd Lt Forrest Jantz USAF participated with his unit 4th Squadron 82nd Airborne Division (Alaska) as part of Operation Neptune's Spear which aimed to retake Guam from Japan; he died on September 25 while flying a Liberator over Okinawa Island hit by an American bomb causing his plane to explode and kill all nine passengers and crewmembers aboard including himself. His squadron flew ninety-six missions during World War II). In 2006, Forest Hill had an estimated population of 1,291 people according to the US Census Bureau estimate released that year; this decrease from 2001 when it had an estimated population of 1,311 people according to their own estimates only slightly less than Austin's total population for that year which stood at 1.,993
In the early 1800s, Forest Hill was a small town in Texas. It was located on the banks of the Trinity River and had a population of only about 1000 residents. The town was founded by surveyor John Hance and his family. It wasn't until after the Mexican-American War that Forest Hill started to grow. In 1848, forest hill became part of what is now San Antonio County. The ranching industry began to take hold in Forest Hill, and by the late 1800s it had become one of the most important agricultural communities in South Texas. The town's growth continued into the 1900s, and by 1910 it had reached its peak population size with over 15,000 people living there. However, during World War I Forest Hill declined because of its proximity to San Antonio. As a result, many of its residents left for other parts of Texas or for Mexico when war began. After World War II ended, Forest Hill slowly regained its former population size as people returned to live there again as part of new development around San Antonio. However, by 2000 it still had no permanent resident government and depended entirely on volunteer fire departments to manage its affairs
