Forest Hill is a small town in Starr County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Forest Hill is located on FM 620 east of Austin and south of Round Rock. The name Forest Hill comes from a ranch that once lay in the area now known as Forest Hill. The first settler in this current location was James Hogg who built his home on what is now FM 620 in 1867. Hogg's heirs sold their interest in the land to John Beardsley for $1,000 in 1872. Beardsley donated the land to the Starr County Agricultural Society for use as a farmstead and school district in 1875. In 1906, Forrest Hogg donated additional acreage to the society for development into an urban community called Forest Hills which would include streets and homes. In 1916 Forrest Hogg gifted another parcel of land to make up for some lost acres when he sold his share of Forest Hills to Lillian Redeker and her husband Harry Killebrew Sr.. Mrs. Redeker used the land to build her own home which still stands today on FM 620 just south of town center near where she lived with her family until her death in 1984. It was later added to Parkland Memorial Hospital after it was acquired by that institution’s parent company University Health System during its merger with Texas Health Resources Incorporated (THR). In 1978, following passage of legislation authorizing annexation of Starr County by Travis County, forest hill voted 3-2 against annexation and has ever since been opposed by county officials because they view it as an attempt by Travis County governmentto neighborlyize their community while maintaining its rural character Forest Hills experienced a resurgence beginning around 1990 when developer Lamar Hunt purchased property adjacent to FM 620 from Union Pacific Railroad about halfway between downtown Austin and round rock for what became known as Hunt Town Center (later renamed Hartwood Village). This new development included several thousand square feet (190 m²) of retail space including several restaurants before being taken over by developers again beginning around 2000 led by Greg Selvin who revived old nickname "The Hoodoo Place" due to several nightclubs (such as The Hustle) that had closed down or been replaced by higher priced venues during this time period In recent years there have been efforts underway within both the city council chambers and among elected officials themselves within City Hall itself towards creating more parkland within forest hills boundaries rather than simply increasing development rates along US Highway 270 thereby reducing parkland available for public use . There are also calls being made towards annexing much larger portions adjacent neighboring communities such as North Shore Village northeast of town center which contains many high-end apartment complexes encircling shopping centers including Sears and Macy's while also containing numerous golf courses providing perhaps one reason why annexation proposal appears more likely given these trends
