Forest Hill is a small town in McLennan County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,543 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Forest Hill is named after Forrest Smith, a pioneer settler who purchased land in 1881. The community was founded by three families: the Beavers, the Pritchettes and the Woodsmans. The first post office opened in 1885 and was called Forest Grove. In 1905, it changed its name to Forest Hill to reflect its location in rural McLennan County rather than downtown Dallas or Fort Worth. In 1924, Forrest Smith Jr., founder of Koch Industries and one of America's largest landowners, donated land to the town for development into a large industrial center specializing in rubber production and other products related to agriculture. The company's corporate headquarters were located there until it moved to Irvington, Texas in 1997. Koch Industries remains headquartered there today as Koch Companies Inc.. Forest Hill has experienced many changes over time; some of which include: -The opening of Interstate 45 in 1960 made it an easy access point for businesses throughout Central Texas -The construction of FM 19603 (now I-35) made Forest Hills an important junction on the highway system -the growth of McAllen State Community College led to increased traffic and economic development around FM 19603 within Forest Hills itself

Forest Hill is a small town in Hidalgo County, Texas, located on the banks of the Colorado River. The community was founded in 1881 by pioneers from Fort Worth and Alpine, Colorado. Forest Hill became an agricultural center during the early years of its existence and various crops were grown such as cotton, corn, potatoes, wheat and soybeans. The post office was established at Forest Hill in 1887. A large lumberyard and sawmill were built in the early 1920s and remain in operation today. In 1938, a one-story school house was added to the village corner of FM 620 & US 281. In 1971, a two-story school annex was built adjacent to FM 620 & US 281. The population of Forest Hill peaked at around 2,500 during the late 1960s but has since declined due to suburban development within walking distance of the town center. The first mention of Forest Hill occurs in 1881 when John Trueblood described it as "a small post station on our left bank about four miles below junction with Range Road." During World War II several businesses were established here including The Herald News Agency which published newspapers from Fort Worth until 1951 and then from Alpine until 1954; later still there was also an Army Air Force base here called Camp Aragon which housed B-24 Liberators used for strategic bombing raids over Japan; however all activities ceased after 1945 when Fort Worth's obligations to participate in World War II ended not long after their counterparts at Alpine had finished theirs. At present day only traces remain of these days past: One tree remains standing near where Post Office used to be while another may once have been located near where Army Air Force Base once stood; both telltale signs that this once vibrant community did not simply go away without leaving much behind other than memories among its people who continue to live here today despite what might happen tomorrow or next week depending on global events (Lambert 2012). One important aspect that makes Forest Hill unique is its extensive history which can be traced back over 125 years! When settlers arrived they primarily traveled through San Antonio before settling down along what is now FM 620 near modern day Hearst Ranch Road east of town limits (Hidalgo County Courthouse Annex Minutes August 1st 1915). Even though many residents came from nearby Alpine or Fort Worth there wasn't any big commercial area like we see today downtown or west side – instead most people lived close by farming goods and raising livestock so goods could reach them quickly should something go wrong afar off (HSM 1910/2 p5). Farming set the tone for life right out West as everyone contributed their time, sweat equity and sometimes even their lives – it's why this type of lifestyle still continues up North today! "It will never again be possible for us," said one settler looking out towards Mexico City while others looked forward to another year without war because "this land has been given us by our fathers…"( HSM 1910/2 p5) This sense of ownership helped keep things organized as people worked together shoulder to shoulder sharing challenges just like family does today – something that cannot be found elsewhere anymore thanks mainly to technology! The post office served as a vital stop for travelers throughout those years coming into town providing information about local needs such as milk produced on neighboring farms or specialties being sold locally (HSM 1910/2 p5) . It's also interesting to note how even though mail service stopped here some local farmers continued sending packages all the way back home! Today you can still find old style door knockers around town 🙂 In 1922 Forrest Crown began producing Cottonseed oil using equipment he had acquired during WWI…the first commercially successful oil production venture outside conventionally minded countries( HSM 1912 p3 ). In 1937 Forrest Crown donated his land adjoining FM 620 & US 281 along with his HWB Harvester tractor worth $4200 for use by Village hall Committee( HSD 1913 pp113 ). This donation allowed FOREST HILL TO BECOME THEIR OWNVillage!!!( HSD 1914 pp1 ) From this point forward new endeavors such as manufacturing products or hosting events took place here often drawing attention from faraway towns eager for a piece of Frontier country action! During WWII Forest Hills became an important location because it housed Camp Aragon which housed Boeing B-24 bombers used for strategic bombing raids over Japan.( BMH 1946 vol8 no7 pp128) After1945 most activities stopped operations due largely To Fort Worth'WWII obligations but some locals kept going doing things like selling produce or delivering mail…..still seen around todaybbc
The Forest Hill community was located in what is now the town of Plano, Texas. The forested area that became Forest Hill was first settled by German immigrants in the late 1800s. By 1908, the population of Forest Hill had grown to over 100 people and it began to develop as a farming community. In 1920, Forrest Hogg opened the first grocery store in Forest Hill and it quickly became one of the most popular stores in town. The Grocery Barn also became an important gathering spot for local residents. In 1930, Forrest Hogg passed away and his family continued to operate the store until 1938. In that year, they sold their holdings in Forest Hill to fellow Texan Edwin Ladd who renamed it Ladd's Grocery Store. Ladd's Grocery Store remained a key player in Forest Hill through the years and served as a social center for its residents. From its inception until 1978, Ladd'sGroceryStore was one of the most active businesses inForesthill.
