Forest Hill is a census-designated place in Chambers County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,854 at the 2010 census. The first settler in Forest Hill was George Hamer in 1857. There were several other families by 1860 and the community name originated from a log cabin built by Ebenezer Morse. In 1865, Forrest Tibbits built the first school on Indian Fork Creek and it was later known as Forest Hill School District No. 1. A post office called Forest Hill was established in 1868, but closed operations in 1876. In 1886, William Wills founded Willow Springs Ranch which included land now part of Forest Hill Village. In 1898, Wills donated of land to the City of Austin for development into what is now Downtown Austin. Originally called West Side Park (now Travis Park), the site became home to many businesses including The Lone Star Brewery and The Dallas Times Herald before becoming home to the University ofTexas at Austin (UTA) after its opening in 1913. As UTA grew larger and new buildings were erected on campus such as Student Union Building (1913), Cockrell Tower (1978), McKale Hall (1983), and Hearn Library (2001), it needed more space andsoil to accommodate for growth so UTA acquired additional land from Wills which formed East Campus earlier this century including much of what is now North Campus within central UTA boundaries today; also part of that annexation are parts of present-day Forest Hills Village which lies east side of US 290 across I-35 from downtownAustin Today there are over 100 businesses with over 10 million square feet located within walking or biking distance near UTA’s Central Campus . Additionally there are numerous parks dotting nearly every inch of East Campus where students can play football, basketball or soccer without ever having to leave their own backyards It should be noted that while most recent forest hills village development has taken place eastside off I-35 just south of downtown Austin near tiger meadow golf course & lakefront swimming pool complex – some homes still stand dating back to pre-UTA days surrounded by undeveloped woods & fields
The Forest Hill community in Webb County, Texas was founded in 1879. The original settlers were farmers who had come to the area from nearby Midland and Galveston. The town grew rapidly due to its location near the new railroad line and other businesses soon opened up in the community. The name of the town derives from a small hill located within its boundaries. In 1913, Forest Hill became an independent City and was annexed by Webb County. In 1984, Forest Hill again became an independent city and has since been governed by a Mayor/Council system.
