Many people know about the Texas Revolution and the Battle of San Jacinto, but few know about the history of firearms in Forest Hill, Texas. In 1836, a group of Texans who were fighting for independence from Mexico decided to arm themselves with handguns and rifles in order to protect their community from Mexican soldiers. The guns were acquired through trade with Native Americans and other Texan militia members. The first handguns used by these Texans were made out of blacksmiths' shop tools. By 1838, there were enough pistols available to arming all of the residents in Forest Hill. The town was named after James Fenton, an American Revolutionary War veteran who had died in 1794 at the age of seventy-six years old. Fenton's familyowned land on which Forest Hill stood. The townspeople donated land to the military for use as rifle ranges and ammunition stores. In 1839, Captain John Hogg organized a militia unit called "Fenton's Rangers." This unit was responsible for guarding Fort Bend County courthouse during judicial hearings that took place outside of Houston. In 1840, General Sam Houston ordered all Texas militia units to be disbanded because he felt that they were not being adequate against Mexican forces operating in central Texas. However, Captain Hogg's Rangers continued to fight against Mexican troops until they surrendered on December 12, 1840 at Polk Creek Ranch near present day Fredericksburg (Lubbock County). After surrendering, Captain Hogg and his men became known as "the Lost Battalion". Aftermath of the Battle of San Jacinto: On January 6th1846 General Antonio López de Santa Anna ordered his army into Austin and prepared to attack Forest Hill. At 9 PM on January 5th Santa Anna's force arrived at Polk Creek Ranch where Captain John Hogg led his Ranger battalion in a final resistance against Spanish cavalry troopers under Colonel José Joaquín de Herrera y Costilla (1798-1862). When Herrera discovered that his horse artillery could not fire effectively due to scarcity of powder he called off the engagement when he learned that 400 Federal Infantrymen had arrived nearby with more effective weaponry including cannons; this battle is considered one of the last engagements between Spanish cavalry and United States infantry before hostilities ended two days later when Santa Anna withdrew his army back up into Austin Castle under cover of night.(Forrest Hills Massacre) Captured rebel officers including Major Francisco Zaragoza (a warrant officer), Lieutenant Angel Gomez Ramirez (a sergeant)and Private First Class Manuel Martinez(age 21)were summarily executed without trial or probable cause.(San Miguel Massacre) As part as partonement for this atrocity Santa Anna established a commission headed by Lt Governor David Buell which investigated all aspects related to incidents surrounding San Miguel massacre.- One hundred fifty-three citizens including nineteen children were also killed or wounded during skirmishes around Austin while Cavalry batteries bombarded Forrest Hills.(Inquisition Trials For Victoria Woodbury & Her Sisters)(Victoria Woodbury Commissions Report)(Victoria Woodbury Massacre Investigation Order)[5] Forest Hills experienced significant growth following its incorporation into Dallas County on November 15 th 1865 by law Revision No 1 (). Two years later Dallas County voters approved proposition #2 which granted voting rights based upon property value alone rather than residence within county boundaries (). On December 3rd 1870 residents voted 7–0 in support of annexation by Fort Worth County ().

Forest Hill, Texas is a small town in Vernon County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,533 at the 2010 census. Forest Hill is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. The first settlers in Forest Hill were Methodist missionaries who established a mission there in 1875. The town was named for John Forrest, an American general and statesman who served in both the Mexican and American wars. Forrest had been born in Scotland and immigrated to America when he was just sixteen years old. He became one of the most influential figures in Texas politics and served as acting Governor of Texas from 1888 to 1889. In 1905, Forrest donated $500 to purchase land adjacent to what is now Forest Hill Cemetery for use as a public cemetery. The donation allowed Forest Hill to become an incorporated town as early as 1907. The city of Dallas annexed part of Vernon County on December 15, 1926; but because it lacked borders until then, Dallas annexes all villages within its boundaries without giving them any special consideration or vote by residents. On February 17, 1930 Southside Independent School District No., which encompassed much of east Dallas (including Forest Hills), filed suit with the Attorney General against Dallas seeking annexation into that district pursuant to Section 3(a) of the Cities and Towns Act (32 USCS § 243). That same day Mayor James Hickey announced that he would not run for re-election because his term would expire at the end of March 1931; however his successor Julius Henry stayed on until 1937 before announcing he would also retire effective that date; therefore all candidates running for mayor during this period were either longtime citizens or newly elected officials who had only held office for one year or less at the time their predecessor resigned or died office

In 1865, General James Hogg ordered all field officers in Great Britain to wear pistols on parade occasions until such time as they could be issued rifles (although many still carried swords). As result, most British infantry officers adopted firearms caps before 1866 when rifles became available again. Forest Hill is a small town in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,674 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Forest Hill was founded in 1879 by John and Sarah Knight as a small community on the banks of the Medina River. The Knights were pioneers in cotton farming and developed what became known as "The Green Belt" around their home farmstead. The first post office in Forest Hill was established on April 20, 1881, by George Waddell. In 1886, A.J. Sampson opened a general store and hotel in Forest Hill which later became the first gas station in Hidalgo County. By 1907, there were four churches in Forest Hills with Episcopal services being offered twice monthly until 1925 when Methodist services were added to the schedule. In 1924-1925 also saw construction of two schools: one for girls and one for boys (now both closed).
