Forest Hill, Texas is a small town located in the U.S. state of Texas. Forest Hill was founded in 1881 by J.P. Morgan and his father-in-law, Andrew Carnegie, as a cotton plantation community on the banks of the Trinity River. The Forest Hill community was founded in 1879 by John W. Forrest and his family. The Forrest family moved to Forest Hill from a farm near Belton, Texas. The first school in the community was built in 1881. The Forrest family operated a grocery store and post office until 1908. In 1911, the Forrests donated land to the City of Dallas for use as an open space park. The City of Dallas improved the park and renamed it Forest Hill Park in 1918. In 1929, Forest Hill Park became part of Dallas County and was designated as a county fairgrounds district. In 1971, theFairplex Incorporation acquired all of the property withinForest Hill Park District for future development including an agricultural section called Elmwood that included more than 1,200 acres (4 km²). In 1984, Fairplex Corporation sold Elmwood to Humble Oil Company for $9 million. Humble Oil Company converted Elmwood into an energy storage facility known as Woodside IMAX 3D Stadium which opened in October 2009.
