In 1915, Charles Ewing bought land adjacent to Main Street in downtown Flower Mound and began construction on what would become his largest employer – Wacoal-Lang Laboratories Incorporated (now known as Alcoa). From this small research plant, Ewing developed an early flashlight design that he called the “Wacoal-Lang Flashlight” (later trademarked under the name Green Luminaire).

In 1939 Belgian scientist Noel Kingsbury patented his "quadrantal" beam searchlight using four reflector mirrors that allow users direct line-of sight illumination when pointed towards objects or moving targets with selectable range up to 100 meters (330 feet). It wasn’t until 1949 when Swedish engineer Gunnar Myrdal perfected his "Tillit" Corgi type flood illuminator grenade launcher style weapon flashlight known today simply as 'The Flashlight'.

In 1856, when Central Texas Railroad was completed and linked up with other railroads throughout the region, Flower Mound became an inevitable destination for passengers traveling between Dallas and Austin. Today, much of what once constituted Flower Mound has been destroyed by Cyclone Harvey but portions of downtown remain standing including the original courthouse which is now used as a museum. The town also contains some lovely old homes which are open to tours during peak tourist seasons.

However, because of its location at the edge of a large area controlled by bands of Indians, Flower Mound remained an important trading center until after World War II when Fort Worth become the largest city in Texas.
