Flower Mound, Texas is a town located in Comanche County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,914 at the 2010 census. Flower and his wife Anna Ewing in 1865 as a trading post on the Brazos River. The town name comes from local wildflowers that were used to decorate the buildings and fenceposts of the time. The first store in Flower Mound opened its doors on May 25, 1865, and was run by Mrs. Anna Ewing and her husband Emmett W. Flower. By 1867, there were three stores in town; two operated by Mrs. Anna Ewing and one operated by Hermon Jardine Auman with assistance from Mr. Flowers son-in-law John Safford Jr.. In 1870s there were also blacksmiths, wagonmakers, Telephone Operator (1875), Laundry (1876), bakery (1890), gaslight Factory (1900) In 1915 when Flowers daughter Ruth married Harry Bowen she moved to Flower Mound with him to live closer to family members back home in Wichita Falls but still visit often for school dances etcetera After World War II Flowers daughter Emily Bowen moved back home after serving her country until she passed away suddenly at age 62 years old leaving no children behind so Blossom Mound became an orphan Post office continued operation until it closed down on October 7th 1966 due to lack of customers On that day all mail received at flower mound went through Wichita Falls which made it possible for them to close without affecting any other mailboxes around town
