Flower Mound, Texas is a small town located in Tarrant County, Texas. The population was 1,834 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The town was founded in 1872 by settlers from Illinois and Iowa. The earliest residents were Methodists and Baptists. In 1896, Flower Mound had a post office and two churches: First Baptist and Second Presbyterian. The townsite was named for Flora Banks (1857-1921), an American woman who helped found the First Baptist Church in Flower Mound in 1895. In 1915, flowers began to be grown on land that would later become Flower Mound after local farmers started planting them as show plants for visitors coming to Fort Worth to see the military installations there. At first, the flowers were sold only at garden Clubs or gift shops set up near military bases around the country during World War I. After war ended, people started growing their own flowers as a way to support themselves and their families during peacetime without having to sell them again when times changed again. In 1927, Lillie Browning bought some of Garden City's old cotton plantations east of Flower Mound for $30 per acre; she renamed it "Browning corn" because she thought it would be more marketable than her other crops such as soybeans and wheat which were then being grown in nearby Arlington Heights and Richardson). The town’s population grew rapidly due to its strategic location on an bend in the Red River which provided easy access to resources such as water and cotton plantations west of Houston. In 1834, a group of African American entrepreneurs decided to move from Arkansas into present day Flower Mound after hearing about available land and fertile soil there. They called themselves The Creek Indians because they thought that they would not be able to compete with white farmers in terms of crops or revenue opportunities. However, within five years, most of those black entrepreneurs had died from disease or accidents while working on their farmssteads outside of town; leaving behind only a few small families who continued to live hereabouts until well into the 20th century. At one point during Reconstruction following the Civil War, Flower Mound became an important center for trade between blacks north of San Antonio and Texans south of Dallas; both sides exchanging goods including foodstuffs such as cornmeal for ammunition supplies along with horse meat and hides needed for clothing manufacture back east. At times this trading activity led to violence because different groups felt threatened by each other’s expansionism within segregated America at that time; something that has been echoed throughout history since then with various races trying to control each other’s destiny through economic means rather than peaceful dialogue or political representation
Flower Mound is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, located on the northeast side of the county. The population was 1,814 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The town developed around an agricultural center that served as a major market for local farmers and ranchers. The original settlers were European Americans who arrived in 1881 from Illinois. They built homes around a small community known as Flower Mound because of the many flowers found near their farmstead. By 1920, most of the original settlers had died or moved away and Flower Mound became an agricultural center with a few houses serving as residences. In 1925, some residents of Flower Mound founded a small school and started to provide education for their children in rural areas surrounding them. In 1936, some residents decided to rename the town Flower Mound after General George Custer's cavalry regiment which fought at Battle of Little Big Horn in 1890. At that time, most Texans reported only one name for their counties - "Tarrant" - so they decided to change it to "Flower Mound". A post office was established in 1948 and operations continued until 1976 when all mail was delivered by U-Haul truck to larger cities across Texas instead of being sent through rural towns like Flower Mound. The first phase of development occurred during the 1960s when new housing developments began to dot the landscape outside of downtown flower mound while businesses such as convenience stores and fast food restaurants opened up within walking distance of each other making life more convenient for those living within easy reach both day and night. This phase ended with disco pumps blaring out over loudspeakers late into the night becoming known as "the night shift." The current iteration began to take shape during 2007 when developers began purchasing large tracts of land adjacent to downtown flower mound creating what is now known as Spring Branch Center which features several blocks full of high-end shops, restaurants, bars and condos overlooking downtown flower mound complete with its own private security force called "the protectors". This phase has seen much growth recently with multiple new shopping malls popping up throughout central Tarrant County including one just downriver from downtown flower mound called Live Oak Mall which will feature two anchor stores - JCPenney and Macy's - along with numerous smaller retailers giving people even more options for how they spend their money on any given day or evening inside or outside Of Live Oak Mall!
