Flower Mound, Texas is a small town in Medina County, Texas. The population was 3,711 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Kline decided to naming his new township after the Village of the Blue Lagoon and soon afterward began construction on what became Flower Mound. The town quickly became one of Wichita County’s largest settlements with its own post office and jail. In 1906, Flower Mound was named one of America’s Ten Towns Of National historical significance! Today, Flower Mound remains a vibrant community with a rich history that is enjoyed by both locals and visitors alike. There are several museums within walking distance including Wichita State University Museum and Art Gallery which features significant Native American artifacts; as well as local restaurants such as Moe’s Barbecue & Grill which has been featured on TV shows like “Chopped” and “The Office”; and Denny’s Drive-in which offers classic American hamburgers for breakfast or dinner!
The Flower Mound, Texas history began on July 16, 1836 when a party of Texans under the command of General Sam Houston journeyed westward from Caddo Parish. They reached the present day town of Flower Mound on November 17. The group had journeyed about eighty miles (130 km) and camped for the night at an old Indian village site that was located east of Fort Hood on the Red River. The next morning they attacked and destroyed their own encampment in order to avoid any possible encirclement by Indians. After raiding nearby settlements for food, the Texans arrived at what is now Austin on December 2. From this location they sent out two letters to relatives back home asking for reinforcements in order to drive Mexican forces off the Texas frontier. On January 6, 1837, a force consisting of 548 Texan soldiers led by Lt. Colonel James Fenton ordered by Major General Antonio Lopez invaded Mexico near San Antonio de Bexar without warning its neighbors or seeking their approval. This unauthorized crossing of international borders resulting in both military consequences and public outcry soured relations between Great Britain and Spain over the following years
